Description

Curry powder is a blend of spices that come together to give a warm and robust flavor to whatever dish it is used in. Curry powder –the key ingredient that gives the sauce its signature curry flavour. For traditional keens curried sausages, use Keens traditional curry powder (mild, not hot). Bright orange tins of Keens curry powder can be found in the spice aisle of Australian supermarkets and online. Any type of curry powder spice blend will work, but the flavour of the sauce may vary slightly from brand to brand. Freezing; Curried sausages can be frozen for up to 3 months, either as a whole batch or in individual serving sizes. To freeze, allow the sausages to cool completely and then spoon it into airtight, freezer-safe containers and place in the freezer. To thaw, leave in the fridge overnight or sit at room temperature for 2-3 hours. Reheat in the microwave or in a saucepan, stirring over medium heat until steaming hot all the way through. From the British colonizers to American useage, the word curry has now become common to describe many types of seasoned dishes with South Asian origin.

Curry powder –for the most traditional flavour, I use Keen’s curry powder (mild) . Both mild and hot versions can be found in supermarkets around Australia. Elsewhere, you can use any curry powder that you have on hand or even make your own version. There may be slight differences in flavour, depending on the spices used. To make this dish mild for kids, start with 1-2 teaspoons of curry powder and then adjust from there, to taste. Adjust the curry powder to suit. Start with a tablespoon and add a little more to taste, if needed. You can also add less, if desired. You could also serve this with a side of green vegetables. But the good thing about this recipe is that it already contains veges so you don’t need to feel guilty if you don’t have time to create a vegetable side. The concept of “curry powder’” is actually a Bristish invention by the Indian spice merchants. It was an attempt to bring the flavor of Indian dishes that British colonists came to love home. Where Does The Term “Curry” Come From? Freezing instructions; Store it in appropriately sized portions (family-sized or in individual serves) so that you can just thaw what you need at the time. Add it to freezer-safe, airtight containers and freeze it for up to 3 months- ready to reheat when you need something comforting and cosy. I always make a double batch and freeze half for next time. To thaw, place in the fridge overnight, or leave out at room temperature for 2-3 hours. Serve it over rice, or even mashed potato or noodles.Basically anything that can be doused with that coconut curry sauce! ~ Nagi x

The recipe card at the end of this post contains all of the ingredients, quantities and detailed instructions. But I’ll run through the basic steps you need to follow here, too. Don’t worry if the sausages are not completely cooked after browning them in the pan. They will continue to cook through in the sauce.Keen's Mustard Powder is composed of finely crushed mustard seeds and is sold in 50g or 100g tins. [1] Cottage pie –top the mince with creamy mashed potatoes and a few handfuls of grated cheese and bake until the cheese has melted and everything is heated through. Really informative, I didn't know about the origin of the term "curry", I also didn't even know the meaning of the word "masala", even though I used "garam masala" before.

Other proteins or vegetarian– make this with beef, lamb, pork, turkey, shrimp/prawns, fish or vegetarian. See directions in the recipe notes; Try this curry with a side of Green Bean Salad, my friend JP’s famous Iceberg Lettuce salad, or this no-mayo Cabbage Salad.

Hello!

Worcestershire sauce –is a well-known pantry staple sauce that adds a deep, savoury umami flavour to dishes. It can be found in supermarkets and grocers and can be swapped for soy sauce and a little tomato sauce, or even a little Vegemite. Ramen noodles – serve it with some seasoned, two-minute ramen noodles for the ultimate comfort dish! All Indian dishes start start with a specific masala (spice mix).
