My intent is to build up some inventory and start selling to get higher value books, in other words to have the hobby pay for itself. The question is this - is the cost of slabbing and the wait times worth it if you intend to have the hobby fund itself? Since then, I have been slowly building up a little collection with some decent keys. While I would love to send them out to be slabbed, is it worth it anymore? Do slabs sell better than raw books? I'm on the fence myself - for higher value books I'd rather find a raw dog then pay for the slabbed grade...maybe lower value keys I'd spring for a slab, but the cost of higher quality books that are graded is making it less attractive to buy. RAW had two priorities after its formation, writes B. Raman, a former RAW official, in the 2007 book, The Kaoboys of R&AW: Down Memory Lane. The organization worked to strengthen its capability for intelligence gathering on Pakistan and China and for covert action in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). Some experts say that RAW’s efforts in East Pakistan, which was created from the partition of the Indian state of Bengal and completely separated from the rest of Pakistan, was aimed at fomenting independence sentiment. Over time, RAW’s objectives have broadened to include: When it's very high grade. For keys, when you get to 9.0 and higher, there can be a massive difference. While you can write that a raw book is NM or higher, a buyer will not pay the same as they would for a CGC 9.6 unless you are selling a CGC 9.6 (or 9.4 or 9.8). And while you could sell it for cheaper, like at the price of a 9.2, you are leaving some money off the table for you. The evaluation from early 2007 shows that libraries are getting a great deal out of this partnership. Literally thousands of RaW events have been run up and down the county with the most popular being those for children and parents - attended by 17,500 people. And over 30 per cent of libraries that took part in the survey said that visitor numbers increased because of RaW.

Robbie Scully (Frog) is Brett's 12-year-old roommate (p.34) . He is at The Farm because of shop lifting offences (p.123). Throughout the book a brother-like relationship forms between Brett and Frog (Robbie). This leads to Brett defending Frog (p.182).

However, the shakeup of the intelligence apparatus has not removed some problems, especially relating to the overlap of agency activities, say experts. Earlier, RAW was the only organization permitted to conduct espionage operations abroad. Now, both the IB and DIA have the authority to conduct such operations, writes Singh.

Weaknesses in RAW

While Raw's first two issues appeared within the same year, five months apart from each other, it became an annual magazine from 1981 on. Spiegelman wanted the magazine to remain pure and not turn into a business. Therefore it had no regular publishing schedule. The third issue rolled from the presses in July 1981. Issue four came out in March 1982, followed by the fifth exactly one year later. Readers had to wait a little longer for the next issue, namely until May 1984, while the 7th arrived exactly one year later. It took two years, in September 1986, before the 8th issue could be found in stores. It wasn’t overly bad, but Brett manages to get himself in a lot of situations that are sometimes his fault and others they aren’t. It’s a typical story that was enjoyable enough but not one I would read again. It has been on my TBR list for about 15 years so at least I can say I finally crossed it off if nothing else. Josh Collins is an Aboriginal boy who is at The Farm by choice. He is working at The Farm to earn money to go to university but he still has to abide by the same rules and discipline as the other boys at The Farm. Brett is a hard character to like, he demands things, he never listens or learns, and you want to yell at him yourself for a lot of the book. He fights against those trying to help him, which is to be expected, but he isn’t someone you want to root for either. Just when you think he is starting to learn he goes and does something stupid again. It just makes you hate him even more.
