Pros: big bass upgrade in a compact form, super stable, can be paired with all Sonos/Ikea plug-in speakers, extremely well-judged low notes, adds range and dynamism to paired speakers, can be placed anywhere with access to a plug in the room, easy setup, long support life. Sub features a high-power radio receiver that allows you to operate the system from a longer range. So you can listen to music while sitting in a different room away from the Sub. For Sonos fans who are light on both funds and space, it’s best to do a mix-and-match setup of individual components. As exciting as the Era 100 speaker is, dropping hundreds on a pair of units before throwing in an added soundbar can’t exactly be described as affordable.

The custom-designed drivers take over the lowest frequencies for the Sonos speaker or home theater setup that Sub is bonded with, freeing up the speaker for higher highs, while the Sub handles all of the lowest lows. Connect Sub to Arc or Beam, and enjoy TV, movies, and video games like never before. Add a pair of One SL surrounds for an even more immersive home theater experience.

Sonos originally released the Sub Gen 2 in a matte finish. However, the company discontinued the color in 2015 and decided against it with Sub Gen 3 too. The sound quality would matter more to you, but remember that its glossy color will not mix with your Sonos setup’s discreet finish. What is perhaps more significant is that the internals has also been updated with a new quad-core CPU processor and the latest memory chip, which doesn’t mean an awful lot to the end-user at the moment. But it’s ready for what Sonos intend to do in the future whatever that may be.

Alternatively, if you’re not willing to spend quite as much on the Sonos sub in this case, the Sonos amp does have a subwoofer out anyway so you can use your active subwoofer. I’ll point out that as long as you’re using the Sonos amp, it doesn’t matter whether you’re using the Sonos ceiling speakers or maybe other brands such as kef, monitor audio Bronze 500 desktop speaker , etc. Is it necessary to buy the Sonos Sub? Ceiling speakers are also a good choice to pair with a Sub. These speakers, empowered with Sonos’ amplifier, will connect wirelessly with the Sub. A subwoofer is a great option since the ceiling speakers do not have a powerful bass. If you are on a low budget, the Sonos amplifier has its subwoofer. So, you can use it for the bass. Pros and Cons Pros It weighs a hefty 6.3kg, so this isn’t a speaker you’ll want to shift around the room too often. A problem with the cylindrical body is that it can’t be laid horizontally and slid out underneath a couch, it’s form doesn’t allow for that aspect of convenience. Connections are kept simple with an Ethernet port for hardwired connection to the Internet. So, if you were looking forward to an upgraded design, the Sonos Sub Gen 3 might disappoint you. However, due to the unchanged frame, you can still position the new model vertically or lay it down, whatever suits the layout. Audio The Sub gen 2, like other Sonos products, is designed with a minimalist aesthetic in mind. It has a small single pairing button on the side, a rectangular hole in the center with trim and rounded sides, and the Sonos logo on the front. Key Features

Twice as much Sonos bass

Without the buzz or rattle, you can enjoy the delightful sound of your speakers. Many speakers or woofers do not have this feature, but Sub guarantees the perfect experience with its force-canceling speakers. Design Sonos is one of those rare companies that test every single product that comes off their production line. Before a product makes it into production, it goes through a series of stress tests as well. This is a big reason Sonos products have the lowest failure rate. However, our experience was that an extra subwoofer can also contribute to better sound: by placing the subwoofers strategically in the room, we were able to achieve a better distribution of the bass in the room. We started by placing the subwoofers in each corner in front of the room, which immediately gave a more even frequency response.

With this simpler setup, you can pair two Sonos SLs with a second gen Sonos Beam. (Image credit: Sonos) With Gen 3’s clear, pulse-pounding bass, you can hear every rumble, growl, and thump you’ve been missing out on. Here’s how to set up your Sonos Sub Gen 2 step by step. If you’re experiencing trouble and would like to follow along with a video lesson, try this tutorial on YouTube. 1. Plug It InUsing Sonos S2: Connects to WiFi network with any 802.11a/b/g/n 2.4 or 5 GHz broadcast-capable router. To confirm the pairing, press the pair button on your Sonos Sub Gen 3. This Button is located on the side of your Sonos device. It should look like an upright oval. 4. Choose A Room One 10/100 Mbps Ethernet port. You can plug a Sonos product directly into your router if your WiFi is unstable

On the other hand, the positives speak for themselves; it’s an excellent upgrade for an existing setup by adding a new dimension of immersion. And it brings the cinema feel to your home. If you fancy treating yourself and you’re happy with your existing Sonos soundbar, but want to take it to the next level this is the product that you really should be looking at. The two woofers face each other, cancelling out their vibrations, meaning the body of the sub stays amazingly still and doesn’t shake the floor, for which anyone living below you will be grateful. Photograph: Samuel Gibbs/The Guardian SustainabilitySpeaking of subwoofers, Sonos Subwoofer (Gen 3) is the latest one available in the market. Sonos released it in June 2020 as an upgraded version of its predecessors – Sub (Gen 1) and Sub (Gen 2). The Sub Mini blends in with the soundbar and improves the bass performance without dominating, the handover between midrange and bass is improved leading to smoother transitions, and a better balanced sound. The internal components have been changed and upgraded, but the Gen 3 remains compatible with the same Sonos ecosystem as its predecessor. Suppose you live in a terraced house or an apartment. In that case, we’d always recommend situating the Sub along a wall that is not connected with a neighbour if possible to give the best chance of the base being contained within your room. or you can enable night mode as I’ve mentioned already.
