The Cramer Profiling kit works really well, it provides a very even smooth finish and allows you to patch over areas while the sealant is wet. I wish I'd bought a set years ago. It cleans off excess sealant from tiles and floor and the tools wipe off easily with newspaper and final rub with paper towel. The only thing that I would caution against is using the saw tooth tool to remove old silicone because if, like me, you are not in complete control of it you can scratch other surfaces very easily. I resorted to using a sharp wood chisel to remove the rest of the old silicone.

I didn't treat the surface as the metal was exposed and appeared to have a fairly rough texture and to be in good condition so I just cleaned it with IPA cleaner, but I guess I should have cleaned it better at least. This is very difficult to judge particularly when mixing a small amount. Some form of measure would be useful. It took ages to decide to buy this product, after a mystery chip appeared in the new bath - it wasn't me guv! I used the product to repair a small gouge/scratch on a fiberglass bath. The damaced area is now as good as new with no sign of a repair.
