Even if she never visited Utah or spoke with any members of the LDS church, or any polygamous sect, she could have done a better job.

Hachette Book Group is a leading book publisher based in New York and a division of Hachette Livre, the third-largest publisher in the world. FREDDIE FOREMAN If you think you know everything about the East End's toughest gangsters, think again. Chris Brookmyre’s story of cyber-abuse, sexism and murder, Black Widow, has collected its second award, after being named crime novel of the year at the Theakston Old Peculier crime writing festival on Thursday night.BLACK WIDOW has red herrings, hidden identities, conspiracies, and more—readers work alongside journalist Jack Parlabane to piece together the truth at its core, but I for one was just as blindsided as Jack by this story’s gut-punch of a finale. Often drawn to her, often repelled its such an interesting walk through the type of life that is more familiar in fiction. Highly recommended for fans of Lisa Jewell’s THEN SHE WAS GONE and Jennifer Hillier’s LITTLE SECRETS, this is a 2023 mystery not to be missed. A stunning stand-alone thriller following a Detroit cop's hunt for a serial killer like no other, from the bestselling authors of The Noise.

Brookmyre’s masterful plotting allows him to deliver twists that are shocking without being overdone and surprising without being illogical. So I'm expecting some congratulatory comments because if you've followed my reviews, you know I'm all about that <380 pgs LOL. One of my favorite things about the crime fiction genre is that it is so wide-ranging and elastic; it can include everything from light domestic suspense to dark, gritty serial killer thrillers. If you’ve been around Crime by the Book for a little bit, you already know how much I absolutely love Iceland Noir: a crime fiction festival that takes place in Reykjavik, Iceland in November. BLOOD SISTERS will be published in September, but thanks to Vanessa and her publisher, we’re able to get an exclusive early glimpse into the book right here in today’s blog post!Full of engaging twists, Brookmyre’s latest thriller featuring unconventional journalist Jack Parlabane is as compelling as it is clever. I’m so honored to be able to reveal the cover for Vanessa Lillie’s buzz-worthy new mystery here on CBTB today! I can't recommend this book enough and love being on the roller coaster ride that is Gin Blanco life. Thursday’s ceremony also saw Jack Reacher creator Lee Child presented with the outstanding contribution to crime fiction award, the eighth author to receive the accolade, following great names such as PD James and Ruth Rendell.

The ending is very tense and though some of the subject matter is delicate and upsetting, “Black Widows” is an interesting and hugely original psychological thriller that looks into another religion’s hidden life and its members and how their culture and moral behaviour affect day to day life. Without further ado, I’m so excited to share with you my personal picks for the Top 10 Crime Books of 2022 in today’s blog post! The subject matter about polygamy, and the parts about Homestead, a cult like living compound where Rachel the first wife grew up, are somewhat uncomfortable to read. He has won many wards for his work, including the Theakston Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year Award, the McIlvanney Prize for Best Scottish Crime Novel of the Year, the Bollinger Everyman Wodehouse Prize, and the Glenfiddich Spirit of Scotland Award. The book begins with Blake, an FLDS member, and over-the-top doomsday prepper (what a great combo), found dead on his remote Utah ranch.
