Gold is spent on new dice face which can give you more resources, or unique effects, and shards on cards which give one time bonuses, ongoing upgrades, or end game points.

The board, in particular, looks very good, as mentioned, but I think there are versions of this game that could have been created with more muted art that wouldn’t feel quite as engaging. That gold is then quickly transitioned into more lucrative and strategic faces which further enable the purchase of relics, which really are the ultimate offset to the whims of chance. The setup and teaching are more involved than they should be due to sometimes-confusing iconography on the cards and no easy way to randomize the card selection.

I’m generally a fan of one currency in by deck/dice builders, so three was outside my preference zone. Possibly the other cards in the game are better (we played with the basic set), and I’d be willing to play the game again to see, but so far I am not particularly impressed.

Or spread the risk, resulting in rolls that give you two good things as often as they give you two single nuggets, an occurrence as amusing as it is frustrating. Getting a Hammer lets you spend money on just gradually getting a bunch of points, which can be pretty handy. All the other cardboard components are solid and thick and feel like they will stand up to repeated plays. If someone is already there, that player is moved to his starting place and also gets a Divine Blessing (roll both dice) as compensation for being displaced.It’s also fun to pop faces out of the dice and swap in new ones, and I really like the idea of modifying dice and rolling them a bunch.

I really like the core board for the game, as well, and especially like how the various cards fit into it (and continue the art).Make your own luck with Dice Forge, a game of crafting dice and heroic deeds for two to four players! Because almost all the faces on your dice will produce some quantity of one of 4… things: golden nuggets, fiery sun shards, crescent moon stones, and common old victory points. Optionally perform an additional action – the player may spend 2 Red Sun Shards to take either another Offering or Heroic Feat (as outlined in step 3 above). If this happens, and your strategy is broken because of luck, or because someone took the last card you were after.
