Description

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Featuring 40 trailblazing black women in the world’s history, this book educates and inspires as it relates true stories of women who broke boundaries and exceeded all expectations.
She earned her BA from the University of Virginia as a double major in Media Studies and Studio Art with concentrations in Film and Cinematography.
The book is beautifully illustrated and the mini biographies of the black women is not too wordy so it's quite nice to read.I've been on a quest to find books that aren't entirely full of white heterosexual middle class imagery. It harkens back to classic children's illustrations done by Mary Blair or Mr Happy by Roger Hargreaves. Debut author/illustrator Vashti Harrison pairs captivating text with stunning illustrations as she tells the stories of both iconic and lesser-known female figures of black history - from nurse Mary Seacole, to politician Diane Abbott, mathematician Katherine Johnson and singer Shirley Bassey.
