Description

He was the most prolific of medical illustrators, having created more than 4000 pictures for Ciba alone [ 6]. CIBA then collected these illustrations in book form, producing the CIBA Collection of Medical Illustrations, which ultimately comprised 8 volumes (13 books). Netter died in 1991 but his work lives on in books and electronic products that continue to educate millions of healthcare professionals worldwide. Following the success of these endeavors, Netter was asked to illustrate a series of atlases that became his life's work.

Leonardo organized his notes and illustrations into manuscript form, but did not publish them in his lifetime. The blocks were cut in Venice and transported across the Alps to Basel, which was then the center of European publishing, and where the volume was printed. While it is quite far fetched to whip out all 325 cards and start studying them on the train or bus, you can separate them into smaller batches and carry those with you instead, boosting your productivity and taking advantage of those ‘dead moments’ throughout your day. He was not only one of the grand masters of the Italian Renaissance, but an engineer, inventor, architect, and an anatomist. B>Illustrated by clinicians, for clinicians, it contains more than 550 exquisite plates plus dozens of carefully selected radiologic images for common views. Frank Henry Netter was born in Manhattan at 53rd Street and Seventh Avenue, and grew up wanting to be an artist.

William Devries asked Netter to be present at the first artificial heart transplant, a procedure that Netter illustrated in full detail. During the time that Hunter was compiling his atlas, the Royal Librarian Richard Dalton rediscovered, in the collection at Windsor, the lost and unpublished Leonardo da Vinci anatomical drawings. In 1989, Netter's Atlas of Human Anatomy was published, assembled from his previous paintings and correlated by updated diagrams. P>

For students and clinical professionals who are learning anatomy, participating in a dissection lab, sharing anatomy knowledge with patients, or refreshing their anatomy knowledge, the Netter Atlas of Human Anatomy illustrates the body, region by region, in clear, brilliant detail from a clinician’s perspective. In June 2000, Novartis sold its interest in Netter's works to MediMedia USA's subsidiary Icon Learning Systems, which in turn has sold the portfolio to Elsevier, which continues to make his work available in various formats. Having continued doing freelance art during his medical training, including some work for his professors, he fell back on medical art to supplement his income. D. School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University in North Haven, Connecticut opened its doors in 2013. The plates took many years to assemble, because of the difficulty in obtaining cadavers with a full term fetus to use for dissection/models.

Netter replied that he thought of himself as a clinician with a specialty that encompasses the whole of medicine.
