Description

The Star Stitch Beanie is the first pattern of my Star Stitch Winter Set, a collection of three matching patterns to crochet a beautiful and squishy set of winter accessories! A side to side beanie is made in a single piece where the number of rows equate to the head circumference and the stitch count (the length of the rows) relates to the height of the hat.

Repeat your stitch pattern until your piece reaches the desired circumference of your hat (which should be a couple of inches shorter than the head it’s designed to fit). I’ve found that there are 3 key aspects to making a really good slouchy crochet hat – the stitch, the hook size and the length of the beanie. Row 2: Ch2, Bean around Ch2 of previous row, Bean into each Ch Sp around. Sl St into Ch of 1st Bean made to join round. Turn. (35 Beans)

Welcome to the World of Hat Crocheting

The video tutorial shows how I adjust the hold of my yarn to keep my tension even. Right sides and wrong sides Beret or tam (which is a regional type of beret) – a soft round hat, usually made from woolen or felted fabric, with a flat, oversized crown that’s sharply drawn in to fit around the head with no brim. Beret is french for cap and they have a strong history within the military.

Read the free version of the classic ribbed crochet hat pattern here Crochet hat patterns using a different construction 12. Classic ribbed crochet beanie with crown shaping I love long and spiked styles crochet stitches when working with different colours because of the jagged, interrupted stripes it creates. The hat brim forms the base of the hat and may be flush with the body or made at an angle. In some cases, such as a beret, there may be no brim but a headband section, tight enough to ensure the hat stays in place. The Cosy Bean crochet hat from knotted nest is worked bottom up in one flat piece and seamed at the side and crown to finish. This one starts with the ribbed brim and then works the bean stitch upwards, adding shaping towards the crown. It’s a great example of a simple crochet beanie worked bottom up flat.

About Stitch

Also make sure that you have an even amount left on both sides. But if you seam at the bumps at each edge, your seam should automatically line up fine. Make 14 puffs in the same size (so that your work looks consistent), or simply as many puffs as you need to reach 17” inches or wrap around your head comfortably. My headband easily stretches to 21 inches . There is some sewing involved in this design and, largely for that reason I have classed this as an intermediate level pattern. This same principle works for adding a cuff to a sleeve or a hem. How to add a brim to a bottom up crochet beanie

If you have longer hair then it looks really nice pulled right down over your forehead and a low ponytail also suits a slouchy beanie really well. Trapper hats– are similar to deer stalkers in that they have ear flaps and a brim but are designed for warmth in excessively cold temperatures and were often made fro, the pelts of animals caught by the trappers. They are similar in shape to aviator hats and sometimes the descriptions are used interchangably. In it’s simplest form, that really is all there is to it… just insert your choice of yarn and stitch pattern. Of course there are many ways to modify this approach to achieve different shapes and styles, but the basic underlying principle remains the same. Shaping your crown From the widest point onwards, you will work traditional waffle stitch in the round for the body of the hat until you reach the brim.Typically this kind of shaping is used with short rows, so this design probably breaks a whole bunch of traditional crochet and knit ‘rules.’ The first round of the band is done with FHTC. There are many YouTube videos on how to do the Foundation Half Treble Crochet. Please refer to them. When changing colour, this will be done when joining to the first stitch with a slip stitch. Insert hook to join and pull through new colour. The Jasmine Beanie is meant to fit most juniors and adults. Made with the same number of rows as mine, it will turn out a bit slouchy. Round 5: Ch1, *2dc, fptr around next st two rows below, miss unworked st; repeat from * around. Join in first st with ss.
