Side note: I also love that one of the love interests is described as not being conventionally attractive, and yet he's alluring anyway. In Lida's words, he's "ugly-hot". Man, I love the characters in this book. All of them. The two leads and the cousin, even the annoying girl Lida. I just... I did not expect to love a YA novel so much. I am a smut girl all the way but I felt I needed a break and so I went for this book and I have to say, it is in my top three of my favorite books I have read this year, and that includes my most beloved romance books. This is a very intriguing story of a young woman about to become the apparent bride to a sea god. Her whole life, she’s been preparing, unable to be touched by males in any way, she has led a very isolated and sheltered life, but she is excited for her destiny with the sea god. Until a mysterious boy washes ashore on her island, and suddenly, everything she’s ever known to be true slowly starts to unravel, even if she doesn’t want to see it. The withholding of information is an annoying recurrence in this book. The conspiracy, Danaire, Tomé, the mother, etc. they all share information then refuse to say more. For it to happen once is fine, but it's constant. Broadly, the Beyond the God Sea trilogy matures along with the protagonist. Book I is Young YA. Book II is Dark/Mature YA better suited to older teen readers. Book III is New Adult.

The second book of Bound by Dark Waters takes the reader to Rythas. The MC goes through a few trials and tribulations. Mostly dealing with the aggressive King that has a sole purpose for her and the cruel twin brother. Betrothed: Beyond the God Sea is a work of fiction in the dystopian, science fiction, and romance sub-genres, and was penned by author Elora Morgan. The work is intended for the young adult reading audience and contains no explicit content. Our protagonist is Zaria, a young woman born into a position of privilege on her island, who is told that she is bound by fate to marry the sea god Keroe in a dangerous ritual. So when a new boy washes up on her island and threatens everything that she and her people believe in, Zaria must re-examine who and what to put her faith in. What results is a thrilling and enveloping start to the God Sea Trilogy. Although Aslan was more of an immediate presence to Narnia than the Emperor, he and his father worked in perfect unity. The Emperor was often referred to as "Aslan's great Father, the Emperor-over-the-sea" and other such titles. He was greatly respected by his son and all who honoured the Lion. Please be advised: In this dystopian series the protagonist grows in a manner similar to characters such as Sansa Stark. She begins as sheltered/naive and does not become a strategist until Book II when the story darkens and matures. There is no spice/adult content until Book III. There are only two possibilities with his strange (and strangely handsome) he’s either a village anomaly or the Sea God himself, in disguise. The alluring boy-creature couldn’t have come from anywhere else, because there is no other land in all the ocean.

So, even though I loved the first book enough to give it five stars, now I am torn... because if the first book was five stars WHAT THE HELL IS THIS ONE? Cause it's more than five.

Despite the protagonists youth, her sense of duty suggested maturity beyond her years. She shows many signs of a young adult who was forced to grow up before she was ready - which builds a devastating effect when it all comes to fruition at the end of the book.Idk. I feel this way because there's this other book I'm reading (not by this author) in which the main character is basically perfect, can't do anything wrong, everyone is constantly in awe of her, and it's just...weird. I can't get into it. So this series is so refreshing. I want to read about characters who have serious faults but grow from them, and this series delivers. There have been countless meals since your arrival, little queen. Don’t you think I could have gotten my hands on one of them by now?” We have a freaking awesome island Princess aka braenese Zaria who is so freaking strong as a fmc. She’s speaks her mind, she takes no shit, and she does what she must no matter the consequences. Which we see most of these characteristics come out in her interactions with Kirwyn. The one thing I didn't like - being left on such a cliffhanger! I want to know what happens next soooo bad, and it's killing me that we'll have to wait to continue this story. Everything tied off well to the first book, but there's still so many unanswered questions (that I won't go into because of spoilers). I received a free copy of this book in return for an honest review. I am a high school student who doesn't usually read any sort of fantasy or dystopian books, but there was something that drew me to this series - and I don't regret it for a moment! The protagonist is from a very sheltered island in which she is raised heavily in purity culture. She is the perfect blend of naivety and rebellious. She isn’t suspiciously all knowing but she is far from a useless damsel in distress.

I especially enjoyed the cat and mouse chase between Zaria and Laz. Their hatred for each other is so intense that there were a few moments where I screamed “JUST KISS ALREADY” at my kindle (because I love a good enemies to lovers plot) but at the same time I loved and admired Zaria’s loyalty to Kirwyn the entire book. She rarely strays, and her internal struggle between staying and fighting and fleeing is so well-written and helps establish and reflect Zaria’s complexities as a truly dynamic protagonist. Her scheming and manipulation and just overall badassery gave me hugeee Jude from the Cruel Prince vibes (I even think at points she does Jude better than Jude) and she’s definitely proving herself to be a FMC queen deserving a seat next to Nesta, Poppy, Jude, Aelin, [insert favorite fantasy ya badass here]. Envy of the other girls, Zaria was born for the sea. Nobody questions her fate as the chosen braenese to marry Keroe, God of the Sea - least of all her. Oh, Aslan! Can't we - I mean, you won't, will you? Can't we do something about the Deep Magic? Isn't there something you can work against it?" There are only two possibilities with his strange (and strangely handsome) face: he’s either a village anomaly or the Sea God himself, in disguise. The alluring boy-creature couldn’t have come from anywhere else, because there is no other land in all the ocean.

The accompanying tug to one side of his mouth, pulling his lips into a crooked line, sent chills down my spine. When Zaria's wedding day finally arrives, she'll become the only islander of her generation permitted to cross into the God Sea. There's nothing more she could possibly want. This book... there are no words to describe it other than amazing. I took some time writing my review because I wanted to re-read it and properly absorb everything that happened.
