It’s miles ahead of An Ocean of Minutes in terms of being compulsively readable, for one thing, and for another thing, it’s quite well written.

I think this book is well suited to upper KS2 children as the two boys in the story are roughly ten years old and year five and six children would be easily able to relate to them. Towards the end of WWII enemy prisoners of War were brought to our village to help bring in the harvest.

David and Tucky have been evacuated from London, and are enjoying (as best as they can) their new life in the countryside. I liked how David and Tucky were best friends since as long as they could remember and ended up in the same house because they could keep each other company and look out for each other during the war and after. The theming in this book opens opportunities for History such as looking into what it was like to be an evacuee - Didcot Railway Centre offers WWII experiences to schools. During a night of bombing David and he’s friend Tucky discover a German bomber has crash landed in the moors, the pair are both morally conflicted if they should helping the airman. But their new life with a kind family at the farm is suddenly changed when they witness a German bomber ditching on the nearby moor.Doesn't matter from which country you are, what skin color you have or, like here: if you're on different sides of a war. Great text for exploring the issues around thoughts we might have over different nationalities to ourselves and how they can be changed. It is a lovely wholesome book that depicts the challenges faced by evacuee children in 1940's Britain. David and Tucky help out on the Reynold’s farm as well as start a new school where they are the only ‘townies’, but things get more exciting when they spot a plane crash over the moors. In November 2016 Michael Morpurgo won the J M Barrie Award for his contribution to children’s literature. This book is about David and Tucky they see a German bomber plan and they help the Germans but the German gives up when trying to escape from the countryside and the Yeo boys are from London but had to be evacuated because of the war one German wanted to give him self up one wanted to escape but got caught by a milkman .Michael Morpurgo is one of the most successful children's authors in the country, loved by children, teachers and parents alike. Davey and Tucky both begin to realise that even though the two soldiers are German and should be the enemy perhaps they can also be friends too. Then one night the skyline of the moor is lit up with gun flashes, and the distant crump of bombing miles away brings the war back to them and shatters their new found peace. There is a new Resource Pack with guidance, worksheets for each episode and suggestions for a range of follow-up activities.
