However, you will need to measure the detergent before pouring it into the clean water reservoir so don’t lose the provided measuring cap. The Hoover has separate compartments for clean water and soap, which is convenient, but several of its tanks and connections are prone to leaking. It has separate wash and rinse modes, and overall, it does an OK job cleaning rugs. However, it simply can’t match the performance and versatility of the Bissell. The Rug Doctor has scooped a Gold Seal of Approval from the Carpet and Rug Institute, and let me tell you, those boys don't p*ss about. Also receiving near-unanimous praise from its legion of satisfied users, this weighty beast uses its heft to ensure the revolving brushes are reaching deep down into the pile. It may be more difficult to manoeuvre but you’re likely to see better results.

It has an impressive 3.6 litre capacity which ensures you won't be wasting time refilling it over and over again whilst you are cleaning. The 20666 features an intelligent rotating brush bar which works deep into the fibres of your carpets to then lift any dirt that may be ground in, this delivers an impressive clean with every use. In my experience, many carpet cleaners have highly touted features that fall a bit flat in terms of performance. However, this model actually delivers with genuinely useful features for pet owners. This model’s not especially easy to stow for those who are tight on storage space, but it’s an exemplary performer nonetheless, even if it doesn’t come with a hose for detailed spot cleaning. Once I had it assembled, the Bissell ProHeat 2X Revolution Pet Pro looks like an oversized upright vacuum, and it has a number of useful features that make it incredibly versatile and easy to use. For instance, you can choose between the new Max Clean (labeled as Deep Clean on the machine itself) or Express Clean modes. The latter uses less water and soap so carpets will dry faster—usually in about 30 minutes, according to the brand. There’s also a CleanShot Pretreater pedal that, when pumped by foot, squirts extra soap from the front of the brush head to help break down tough stains.This notoriously durable fella also comes with an extraction nozzle for cleaning carpets. Granted, it’s not the widest nozzle in the world but it works very effectively on stains. You could feasibly even use it on a whole carpet, if you're a patient sort. Most carpet cleaners require hot water to work efficiently but this model is able to keep the water at optimum temperature using its Heated Cleaning technology.It also features two levels of cleaning power: Deep Clean and Express Clean. Credit is provided by Hitachi Personal Finance, a division of Hitachi Capital (UK) PLC Authorised and Regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. And while all this is going on, the Carpet One Pro’s huge colour LCD screen constantly relays the state of play to the user via a set of beautiful animations – and some admittedly annoying voice prompts. For those with stairs, it also comes with a hose and a small cleaning nozzle.

Unless you have swathes of carpet throughout the home that requires constant attention, your best bet is a spot cleaner like this easy-to-store cordless model from Vax.

The base of the Bissell ProHeat 2X Revolution comes all in one piece, but I did have to attach a number of additional parts before I could get the carpet cleaner up and running. Includes a trial size of BISSELL Pet Stain and Odour solution to deep clean your carpets and stop pets soiling in the same area In the process of washing one medium-sized rug, I had to refill it once and empty the dirty water tank twice. I used the hand tool to scrub each stain twice, and it got the majority of the chocolate, salad dressing, coffee, and dirt out. The wine and mustard stains were still visible, and the permanent marker barely budged. Keep in mind that none of these stains were pretreated, and you would likely be able to get them fully out with a spot treatment. Additional Features: All extremely helpful
