Cuando recién acabé de leer este libro me sentí muy emocionado debido a la explicación final de los acontecimientos. Sin embargo, tras revisar mis anotaciones y reflexionar sobre ellas, llegué a la conclusión de que es un buen libro pero sin exagerar. One night, Watson and Sir Henry follow Barrymore, and discover that he and his wife are secretly feeding Selden, who is actually Mrs. Barrymore's brother. Watson and Sir Henry try to capture Selden, but fail. However, that night, Watson sees a mysterious figure standing alone up in the hills. It did heighten the spirits, but maybe the outgrown rationalism wasn’t sated. The naïve, innocent, and the guileless would admire it to the core, but living in a world of cause and reason, where my being has witnessed a lot of pragmatism, and the unexpected, the awe and the surprise element did amuse me, but did not land me into a state of euphoria or utter-fear!

So, this is a very creepy book. The image of the old, haunted mansion used in many horror stories seems rather overdone today but Doyle's example of this still works all these years after the book's publication. The atmosphere created by setting this mystery miles from civilisation and out on some creepy moors is highly effective, that kind of setting can make anyone start to believe in ghosts. This tale is told through the discovery of secrets that are hidden away in the house's very corridors and come out to play at night, red herrings are thrown in and everyone has a secret - it's hard not to be caught up in the creepiness and tension. The more outre and grotesque an incident is the more carefully it deserves to be examined, and the very point which appears to complicate a case is when duly considered and scientifically handled, the one which is most likely to elucidate it. Holmes notices a portrait of Hugo Baskerville, and secretly indicates to Watson that the face bears a striking similarity to Stapleton's. He thereby realizes that Stapleton must be a Baskerville, who hopes to kill off the surviving family members so that he will inherit the fortune.

Watson does his best to discover the truth behind the hound, but his investigations turn up red herrings and more confusion. Even when the Barrymores reveal their relationship to the convict, Watson and Sir Henry’s pursuit of the convict leads only to hearing the eerie sound of the hound and the revelation of yet another mysterious figure hiding on the moor. Watson’s investigation of Laura Lyons initially appears to be a dead end. Fortunately, during this point in the investigation, Watson discovers Holmes has been hiding on the moors. Holmes has deduced that Mr. Stapleton is the culprit behind Sir Charles’s murder, however, without solid evidence, he cannot prove it. With the hound and local legend as his weapons, Mr. Stapleton has used the suggestive power of the moor as his ally in this crime.Over the green squares of the fields and the low curve of a wood there rose in the distance a grey, melancholy hill, with a strange jagged summit, dim and vague in the distance, like some fantastic landscape in a dream." This adventure concerns the mysterious death of Sir Charles Baskerville, and the possibility that the heir to his fortune might be the object of murder. Before the novel begins, Sir Charles Baskerville had died suddenly, perhaps the victim of a ghostly hound believed to haunt his family because of an age-old curse. The Baskerville estate is located out in the remote moor of Devonshire. I have never-ever reviewed crime thrillers, will try to do justice for the benefit of the readers and myself (in preserving notes) :P The Hound of the Baskervilles has been adapted for radio for the BBC by Bert Coules on two occasions. The first starred Roger Rees as Holmes, Crawford Logan as Watson and Matt Zimmerman as Sir Henry and was broadcast in 1988 on BBC Radio 4. Following its good reception, Coules proposed further radio adaptations, which eventually led to the 1989–1998 radio series of dramatisations of the entire canon, starring Clive Merrison as Holmes and Michael Williams as Watson.
