Cooling high-power, high-end-desktop (HEDT) processors like Intel's Core X series or AMD's Ryzen Threadrippers with an air cooler is a formidable task. Typically, cooler manufacturers will increase the size of an air cooler to boost its performance and the overall amount of heat it can handle. But the finite amount of space and overhead clearance inside a PC case sets limits on how large an extreme air cooler can be. Given the larger die size and ample power consumption of today's HEDT processors, there simply isn't much room for HEDT air coolers to grow much bigger. First impressions are that this is a pretty nice looking unit. Most noticeable is that the pump on this model has a much more conservative look than either of the previous AIO coolers we’ve seen from ID-COOLING. There’s no comet tail LED effect that the 240 sports, nor anything like the intricate design from the ICEKIMO. I think there's a little confusion - I'm not talking about replacing the whole cooler unit, I'm talking about modifying the Frostflow 150 by replacing its two fans with new silent ones of equal performance. There just isn't much information elsewhere online about Frostflow brand coolers as they are somewhat of an 'own brand'. This air cooler is an unusual entry in our list—the only one not built by a familiar industry leader. The Alseye DR900 is the lowest-priced cooler in this group, but its features and value make it an enticing option if you're working on a budget build for which you want equal parts bling and cooling. The more powerful your CPU is, the bigger and better cooler you'll need, no surprises there. If your desktop PC needs a lot of power and you travel with it, you're likely to feel safer with a radiator that's attached to your case via 8 or 12 screws than with a huge chunk of metal hanging off your motherboard.

This covers the changes we would recommend. Had to substitute the CPU with the 3600 as 3600x isn't available on the config. To test each cooler at idle, the minimum temperature is taken after leaving the PC with only start-up programs on Windows 10 being allowed to run for 5 minutes. After this, the minimum temperature with the core temperature being offset against the room temperature; thus achieving delta. Load Testing Methodology At this price point, boasting the performance I have witnessed, the ID-Cooling Frostflow+ 280 gets a Play3r Gold Award…and it’s very well deserved.

Touching closer on the included cooling fans, ID-COOLING have included 2 x 120mm PWM supported fans with a dynamic range of 800-2000RPM. Of course, at full speed these will be very noisy, but I can’t imagine many scenarios where the CPU will be bombing at 100% constantly other than rendering, in some poorly coded games and when benchmarking/using LINX. The maximum rated airflow of these fans at 2000RPM is 84.5CFM which is impressive, but of course with a radiator impeding air flow, the figures will be much lower in reality. It’s not the most robust in terms of build quality, but this is reflected in the price that you have to pay for this unit…which leads us nicely onto Value!
