But, to be fair, 3DMark does use very high graphics settings, so if you don’t mind turning the graphics quality down a little you might even be able to get a bit of casual gaming done every now and then. This Chromebook uses an OceanGlass™ touchpad made entirely out of ocean-bound plastic. This environmentally-friendly material gives you a sleek, glass-like tactile texture as your fingers scroll across the touchpad. The 14-inch screen only provides 1920x1080 resolution, but it’s bright and clear, with good viewing angles. We’re also pleased to see that it has a matte finish that helps to reduce glare and reflection. The 720p webcam is a bit basic, but the image quality was better than we’d expected - it gets a bit grainy if the light is low, but some decent daylight produces an image that’s sharp enough for video calls. See more and do more with a 16:10 aspect ratio and narrow bezel—choose 14”, 15” or 17” 1080p IPS displays, or step it up with 1440p QHD—all equipped with Acer’s suite of visual technologies for dynamic color and viewing comfort.

The touchpad is offset to the left under the space bar due to the number keys and, thus, not even close to the center of the case. If you use the pad with your right hand, this might be a bit annoying when browsing the web, for example. Furthermore, the hands are also offset to the left when typing, so the distance to the touchpad is short here at least. The size of around 10.5 x 8 cm is absolutely sufficient. The IPS panel is matte, which makes the problem with reflections obsolete. Consequently, there are no unwanted reflections from lamps or windows. This also benefits outdoor work, even though the device clearly isn't the best choice in terms of mobility due to its dimensions. The 14-inch or 15.6-inch models are more advisable here. Even so, that’s not too bad for a low-cost laptop such as this, and if you’re not using wi-fi then the Aspire 5 should give you a full day’s work when you’re on the move.
