And what with Nile being one of the most successful music producers to date, with his funkish wah-like tones being (a large part of) the reason behind his success, it’s hardly surprising that wah-wah pedals are so popular. Team that with all the other famous faces who’re said to incessantly use a wah – Kirk Hammett, Tom Morello & Eric Clapton etc. –& it’s easy to understand why the best wah pedals are highly sought after. The creation of the Wah pedal was an accident – discovered during the design of the Vox Super Beatle amplifier in 1966. This was a transistor-ized version of the AC50 with a few effects – MRB (mid resonant boost) and reverb – made only for the US market. During the design, the team noticed the mid resonant boost could be controlled with the Vox Continental’s volume pedal to sweep the boosted frequency. To them, this sounded like using a mute on a trumpet. Collection and delivery costs are included for the first 2 years in the event of an item becoming faulty And thus the Wah pedal was born, and released in 1967 with an image of Clyde McCoy on the bottom of the pedal. At the time Vox’s US distributor, Continental Organ Company, was into Big Band music and thought the Wah might work better if marketed for woodwind instruments, which was why Clyde McCoy, a famous jazz trumpeter, was used for the marketing of the new pedal. The true bypass design means that the signal does not pass through the circuit when the unit is switched off, ensuring that its tonal character is unaffected.

Designed as a premier pedal for the tone purist, the V846-HW provides a true bypass circuit to meet the needs of today's guitarist. Any coloration of the sound or loss in audio quality when the Wah Wah function is off has been totally removed. True bypass circuitry is becoming a standard feature among today's pedals, which is why Vox has integrated this into the design ofits V847-C wah pedal. Thismeans that your guitar'ssignal does not pass through the circuit when the unit is switched off, ensuring that its tonal character is unaffected and not subject to colouration. Made in Japan For customers in outlying areas of the country, the price of the Extended Warranty may be marginally higher, due to the potential for higher collection and redelivery transport costs. Now in 2011, over forty years later, the V846 has been reborn as the V846-HW Hand-Wired Wah Wah Pedal. While its classic tone is undeniable, the V846-HW was not created to simply repeat the history of the past, but to write new chapters in the future. As its name implies, the V846 Hand Wired boasts hand-wired turret board construction. But VOX didn’t stop there. Every component, including the inductors, resistors, capacitors, and the potentiometer has been carefully selected for premium fidelity and tone. In fact, a tone-preserving true bypass has been added to the original design. Outside, the die-cast body features a sandblasted exterior with crepe finish. The V846-HW is a perfect combination of VOX's world-famous technology, with classical yet modern specifications, surpassing any previous Wah Wah pedal in history by delivering the purest sound. However, the Gear4music extended warranty scheme provides an enhanced service, and is designed to offer a higher level of protection than many 'free' warranties offered by some retailers and manufacturers.

Vox V845 Wah Overview

Dunlop’s CAE Wah even features both red and yellow fasels. You’ll need to fork out more cash for these particular best wah pedals, but they produce a sweeter, mellower voice than the more aggressive sweep of many modern designs.

That’s pretty obvious. You see, a wah-wah isn’t just ‘another guitar FX pedal’. It’s ‘that’ pedal. The one that SCREAMS “Jimi Hendrix”& opens up a whole new envelop of funkish tones. Sounds that were later popularised by the likes of Nile Rodgers & Bernard Edwards since the late 70s. You should get an instant answer on whether your application has been successful, though in some rare cases Klarna or V12 may need to look at the application in more detail. And we say so for good reason. Yes, Jimi Hendrix was the legend who practically invented the wah pedal, & therefore not to crown his pedal the best would be a bit of an insult. However, there’s more to it than that – don’t be fooled into thinking we’re soft. Well, beside from this iconic pedal being the secret behind many a famous artist’s sound – Nile Rodgers & Jimi Hendrix to name but a few – a wah wah pedal enables you to alter SO many aspects of your sound! In technical terms, wah’s are known as an envelope filter because of the way they allow you to SQUEEZE the resonance of your sound… a wah isn’t an ‘on/off’ type of effect. It’s gradual.

Please note that this extended warranty is currently only available on products sold within the UK, EU or EEA, and is subject to the terms and conditions as detailed on the extended warranty certificate provided. While you can buy many good cheap wah pedals, you’d be a fool to buy the first one you come across. TheV847-C isan evolution of the classicVoxwah pedal. The frequency range of the wah (frequencies in which the wah can be varied) has been set lower, with the gain boosted and the Q-value (the sharpness of the wah’s peak) adjusted to deliver a powerful sound with a low centre of gravity. The V847-C uses a softer material than the rubber feet on previous models. You’ll be able to turn the wah effect on/off more smoothly while you play your guitar.

Specifications

If you're keen on saving pedalboard space, you may prefer a combined wah and volume pedals, as these offer both types of effects in a single pedal. The Hotone Soul Press is a prime example of this kind of combi pedal. And that’s why we feel it deserves the title of one of the best wah pedals you can buy. Yes, it’s not Vox or Jim Dunlop, but… it surprised us. So much so that if we were building a pedalboard on a budget, the Vowel would almost certainly be the 1st pedal we’d invest in.
