On this note, we also played our first couple of games with the Oceania Expansion without the core set just to experience all of the new birds. That was a much more dull experience in comparison. Contrasting my starting experience with Wingspan Asia against my starting experience with the Oceania Expansion, I could really tell that the bird powers in Asia were designed with a standalone experience in mind, and the bird powers in Oceania were not. Although we both felt Wingspan Asia as a set has some trouble generating food for us. I’ve seen this sentiment expressed by others in the community as well. When you use the “play another bird in this habitat, and pay it’s normal cost,” does that cost include the egg cost at the top of the player mat? Again, I’m very excited as well. I know this game is well thought out by Elizabeth and I only post because we enjoy it and care! Ah. Thanks for clarifying. I believe that their implementation includes the Automubon Society card by default. That card has ‘bird card up’ plus cube for all 4 rounds. Thank you Elizabeth and the stonemaier team! After spotting the wingspan game for the first time in a game shop in the seaside town of Bridlington – UK 2022 we decided to get it for Christmas. We always play games as a family and are big bird lovers too so this was ideal and as a family we have decided that it’s the best game we have ever played!

I think that Wingspan Asia is a core set in spirit, even if Stonemaier Games doesn’t want to call it that. You don’t actually need core Wingspan to play it (a feature of a new core set), but it also expands what core Wingspan can do, and you actually need it to play certain ways (a feature of an expansion). Solo or multiplayer, if you don’t fulfill any of the goal requirements, you don’t score any points for that goal. People have shown, especially in the Wingspan Facebook group, that some groups do play with six or seven players already. Elizabeth Hargrave has even publicly stated that she was inspired by these people. I think she ended up finding a way for people to get more value out of the two new boards and the extra components they were already going to get.For the AAAA, you take all that are worth 2 or 3, give Automa up to two cards (lowest valued first), and discard the rest. Can you tell which food tokens came with Wingspan Asia and which ones didn’t? Don’t be coy about Nectar! Like most birds of prey, this bird benefits greatly from the bonus cards Falconer and Rodentologist. Not to add trouble to this, but my whole family is autistic and we didn’t struggle with this card, because the wording is different. We figured there was a reason they used the word “may,” since it was used nowhere else, and that it meant you could keep the food if you wanted. The card and egg generated by the orange arrow spaces fall behind as a general focus because they are not clustered together with other resources in a significant way. They are separated from the nearest food resource by three spaces and the nearest card resource by two spaces. They can work together most effectively with the blue arrow spaces as a part of Grasslands development, forming a snake-like line of contiguous grouping and fueling more bird plays by delaying the need for the lay egg action. Wingspan Asia Duet Mode End of Round Goals

Common Tailor bird introduces us to a new word in Wingspan. Contiguous means anything that is touching, next to, or together in sequence. The rule book doesn’t appear to explain how this applies to Wingspan, but I suspect that “a contiguous group of birds” means birds across your columns and rows that are adjacent to each other. We are in Australia and our son turns 7 on Saturday – he is an absolute Wingspan fan. He has fallen in love with the Kakapo believing it to be the most adorable bird in the world, based on the illustration on the Wingspan card. This adoration led him to research the Kakapo and learn about this unique bird and of their critical endangered status. I’m specifically curious if her choice of fonts was at all affected by the fonts traditionally used in classic collections of ornithological art, which were often paired with a cursive/script font in illustrations (e.g., google for “coracias garrula”) or a formal serif font in engravings (e.g., google for “turtur lophotes”). Brown power to “gain a wheat from birdfeeder, if available, you may cache it on this bird.” Does that mean you have a choice to either cache it, or just add it to your personal supply? Or is it that you can only cache it on the bird? This game end egg laying power asks you to arrange certain nest types adjacent to each other, so strategic placement is key. Aggressive egg spam strategies may not get much from this power as nest space will be tight.

Despite being at least moderately complex (both mechanically and strategically), Wingspan has achieved mass appeal — potentially because of the beautiful artwork that pervades throughout, or maybe it’s the suspiciously edible looking miniature eggs? This success is what spawned the first two expansions, which in main simply added more birds from their respective locations, plus new objectives with them. Wingspan: Oceania did bring in a wild food resource, but aside from that, they felt quite familiar. From there you follow the rules on the card for the difficulty level you are playing, as it relates to the point value on the cards. So, for the ‘Rare Species Lister’ if you are playing ‘Eaglet’ difficulty, you look at the three birds on display, take all that are worth 4, 5, or 6 points, give Automa the lowest valued one, and discard the rest. Chris: You’re correct that Christine selected the fonts in Wingspan. I think she chose the fonts because she thought they were the best fit for the game, but beyond that I don’t know.

If the round goal is “Bird cards in the Water” and you have 5 birds there and one is the Cetti’s Warbler does this mean you double her for a total of 6? It seems to me this can’t be right as the maximum is 5… You are bird enthusiasts—researchers, bird watchers, ornithologists, and collectors—seeking to discover and attract the best birds to your network of wildlife preserves. Each bird extends a chain of powerful combinations in one of your habitats (actions). These habitats focus on several key aspects of growth: The pink arrow spaces behave in a similar manner but they trade one food for one egg from playing a Grasslands bird. More often than not, your early game benefits the most from establishing strong food gaining from your Forest and strong card drawing from your Wetlands. Early game egg production isn’t nearly as important due to generally limited nest capacity and a cheaper egg cost to play birds into columns two and three.

A new card color which is not optional, but mandatory it if you’re in the habitat. (Maybe connected to desert birds, where food is scarce.) E.g. you have to give a card / food token to another player. You must lay an egg on this bird. Etc.No precise idea on future birds (what about south east Asia !) but I am looking forward to discover them in the coming expansion (how can I wait so long ?). Maybe just an idea about playing a bird to prevent somebody to take food or play an particular bird, or on the contrary to protect ones birds, kinda “green power” ?
