Use place value sliders to explore how the digits move when multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000. So rather than working out the sum, when multiplying by 10 we can simply move the digits to the left, for placeholder zero in the ones column. For example, only in this guide will we present installation sketches for a Skylight 600mm x 600 mm. For all other sizes, we provide installation sketches in the gallery of each size separately. Use digit card questions to limit possibilities, e.g. I have the digit cards 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. Use the cards to fill in the gaps. You may use each digit card once only.

Computing

x 100 - Place holders have appeared, but not in the correct places. All the digits need to move together, like the figures on a fussball table! Find the product of multiplicand and most significant digit (MSD) of 3-digit multiplier, and write down the product under the earlier product but the One’s place value of product should start from the Hundred’s place value of multiplicand.

But notice 360 looks like 36 because it is 36, but 10 times larger. 36 has moved along one place and a placeholder zero has appeared in the ones column. Be careful what silicones you are using to install and weather tight your Skylight. We recommend the above products as fully compatible with our glazing unit silicones. Apply, generously, on top of the upstand weatherproof sealant, usually, 1 tube is enough for 6 linear meters. Arrange the 4-digit multiplicand and 3-digit multiplier for long multiplication method, multiply the multiplicand by Least Significant Digit (LSD) of multiplier and the product underneath to the line in the way that the Ones’s place value of multiplicand and One’s place value of product of LSD of multiplier and whole multiplicand should be vertically aligned in a straight line. A minimum pitch of 6 degrees relative to the horizon must be provided to avoid water pooling in the middle of the glass panel (for every meter of Skylight a 10cm fall is required). It is worth spending a few extra minutes before applying the silicone to run a water test to ensure the water is not pooling (even though you are installing glass it will still bend in the middle)The internal distance upstand to upstand needs to be 10mm bigger than the quoted skylight size (in our example: 610mm by 610mm) and Hassan, to solve the puzzles, escape the maze and become the greatest mathemagicians of all time.

Now, if we want to divide by 10, instead of moving our number to the left we simply move it to the right. 36 becomes three point six, note the decimal point we add here. Well, it's really there all the time, but only reveals itself when a part of a number is smaller than one. We put it there to mark the place where our number becomes smaller than a whole number. To divide by 100, we move two, zero point three six.
