We have had this thing for almost two years now. Unfortunately we now have to throw this one away and get a new one. It no longer traps smells and in general all the diapers can be smelled from another room if you have a sensitive nose. That being said my child is almost two so it did last a long time. It also worked great entirely for the first year (baby poop/pee doesn’t really stink till they start eating food). I have tried cleaning this entire thing with industrial cleaner and with vinegar. It seems that the silicone parts on the top lid have collected bacteria overtime and it is absolutely impossible to rid of the smell now. I would rather just buy a replacement lid but ubbi doesn’t offer this option. Not sure how to avoid this or if you can since the condensation that collects is a natural process of the diapers sitting in the pail (for any amount of time). Refilling the disposal system is also very simple and is just a matter of removing and dropping a new one straight in. When compiling our lists of recommendations, our team of experienced parenting journalists spend hours analysing every single product category, using a variety of independent sources to evaluate products against each other and assess which ones perform best. We then consolidated these results with the opinions of our huge network of Mumsnet forum users, which is the biggest online network of parents in the UK. Why you should trust us Lots of Mumsnet users stop using nappy bins after their babies start reliably eating solids. Weaning usually begins at six months, so you may find that your nappy bin becomes less useful when your baby is anywhere between eight and 14 months. Can a nappy bin really be stylish? Well, yes, actually. The Ubbi Nappy Disposal Bin isn’t a cheap option, but it’s won several design awards and comes in several different colours – including Sage Green, Blush Pink, Chrome, Marble, Woodgrain and Slate – so there’s sure to be something to match your home decor.

MOST AWARD WINNING DIAPER PAIL: The Ubbi diaper pail won NINE awards proving parents and experts approval Our favourite feature of the Ubbi nappy bin is that it does not require its own branded bags or films and can be used with any appropriately sized liner which helps keep costs right down over time. This change of mind return policy is in addition to, and does not affect your rights under the Australian Consumer Law including any rights you may have in respect of faulty items. To return faulty items see our Returning Faulty Items policy.

If you’re looking to save money, buy nappy bins that don’t require special plastic bags. But if you want more convenience and don’t mind the additional price, then nappy bins with special “cassettes” or plastic bags will be a great choice as well. Environmental impact: Plastic nappy bins and refill bags have an environmental impact so, if this concerns you, you may prefer to use more eco-friendly reusable nappies and a washable wet bag.

The Ubbi diaper bin is a godsend. Expensive initially, but then you can just use normal bin liners so much cheaper than the ones with special refills in the long run. We have one in our bedroom and there’s no smell at all, even with multiple dirty nappies sat in there for several days.” (Rated by Mumsnet user SparrowNest) Our verdict The fact that the refills are well on the economical side is certainly appealing, as is the fact that they’re fully biodegradable and made of at least 20% recycled, post consumer materials. Our advice is to spend a little extra for one with metal construction, which will pay off by helping keep odours trapped in and from absorbing into the material. Benefits of A Nappy Disposal System If you’re using reusable nappies, you’ll need to consider where you’re going to store them until wash day - a bin or wet bag designed for reusable nappies could be your answer. Many parents on our forums highly recommend nappy bins and we’ve rounded up their favourites to help you decide if you need one too. To meet the needs of today's eco-conscious parents, this award-winning nursery essential offers the convenience and value of utilising any standard garbage bag or reusable cloth liner. Some users recommend zipped bags that you can put straight into the washing machine, rather than a nappy bin. They particularly like ones with a hook. We just use a normal lidded bin. Yes it smells when you open the lid to put a nappy in, but that only lasts a few minutes and TBH the room smells when a toddler has just pooed in it, regardless of how the nappy is disposed of." (Recommended by Mumsnet user BertieBotts) Our verdict

If you’re looking for a more compact, space-saver bin then it's worth remembering that it won't have as large a capacity, so you may want to weigh up whether space or capacity is more of a requirement. And remember that the capacity normally covers size 1 nappies, so the bin and liners will hold fewer nappies (and need changing more often) when you start using larger sizes. How do nappy bins work?Enter the world of Ubbi, where innovative products are designed and created with parents and children in mind. Under the Ubbi name, you will find unique, quality products that are easy to use, helping to simplify parents' lives while keeping babies as happy and safe as can be. NO SPECIAL MECHANISM - SIMPLICITY WORKS BEST: Ready right out of the box, simple to use and not prone to breakage They are also very effective and negating any bad smells you may get after a change, sealing and trapping the odours effectively in the bin. The Angelcare Nappy Disposal System can hold up to 38 newborn nappies, which helps reduce the trips you have to make to your outside bin. It also uses a 7-layer film refill, which is hygienic and proven to keep odours trapped inside. Thus, helping you to keep germs and smells at bay. I think in general it’s still a nice diaper pail. It holds up well but the condensation within the pail is problem (and adds to the issue I think). However I’ll still buy another. I would rather deal with steel than plastic parts any day of the week.

Nappy bins for disposable nappies are designed to store used nappies until you have enough for a wash. Most state the number of nappies they hold, but this usually refers to size 1 nappies – the newborn size – which means that, as your baby grows, your nappy bin will hold less. Aside from the capacity, you should also consider a nappy bin’s size. You’d need something that can hold a decent number of nappies without cluttering your nursery. I use the Bambino Mio wet bags. Pricey but leak-proof and washable.” (Tried and tested by Mumsnet user FluffySavage) Our verdict Nappy smells causing a stink in your home? Make nappy changes a breeze and eradicate nasty whiffs with one of the nappy bins Mumsnetters swear by.
