Description

The iLoud MTM monitor has a broad frequency response range, extending from 50 Hz (around G1 on a piano) to 24 kHz (±2.5dB). This is a more expensive option, but will give you the best quality sound. A stereo DI box, like the Radial Pro D2, will convert an unbalanced audio signal into balanced, while eliminating hum and buzz caused by ground loops. A good value product makes something available to you at a new price point. These make an experience available to you that was not available at any price point if your listening environment is compromised. Following on from the popular iLoud Micro Monitor, the iLoud MTM introduces a double woofer system and the ability to tailor the sound to the room.

KEY FEATURES: 6.5" ultralight coated paper mid-woofer. 1.5" high output, low distortion chambered textile dome tweeter. Audiophile, custom-designed Class-D power amplifiers. 150 W total RMS power. Max SPL, peak, pair, music, 1 m: 116 dB. Complete DSP controlled system, 96 kHz sampling rate. 45 Hz to 30 kHz frequency response +/- 1 dB. 37 Hz low frequency extension @-4 dB. Preamp gains not to be ignored, clipping may be an issue so the EQ might diminish even further the dynamic range of the speaker. There are three calibration settings to choose from. IK’s proprietary ARC calibration system compensates for room acoustics using the measurement microphone. I previously covered the ARC System 3 software on its own in November 2020, in September 2019 (part of the original iLoud MTM review), and July 2021 (part of Total Studio 3 MAX). In short, it compensates for your room’s acoustics using the included measurement microphone and stores these profiles in a dedicated plugin or directly into the Precision monitors. If you don’t have to move the monitors, and you have space for the slightly larger footprint, the MTM monitors have the advantage of ARC calibration, so you can adapt the sound to suit your room.

Deep bass is solid and firm - you won’t believe sound like this comes from a monitor so small. Adjust your angle in any situation When deciding between the three monitors, size, cost and SPL capabilities are not the only factors to consider. The MTM configuration features a “naturally limited vertical dispersion,” which means the response is more directional. In theory, this makes your room’s acoustics less of a factor than the standard dispersion found in the Precision 5 and 6. IK points out that Precision 5 and 6 will sound more natural as they interact more uniformly with your room, which is closer to a traditional audiophile listening experience. The point source imaging of the Precision MTM provides a more forward, detailed sound, as IK describes it “almost like a magnifying glass.” Rear Control Panel With a total power of 100 W, the maximum sound pressure level is 103 dB. Thanks to the on-board DSP, the speaker sounds natural and realistic. It produces solid bass notes. Thanks to an advanced and effective shape of MTM's body and their DSP side they are able to really give you a possibility to hear mixes as they are. MusicRadar verdict: The iLoud MTM is a remarkable feat of audio engineering in bringing such a surgical level of detail at in such a small format. It makes an ideal choice for those with crowded desks, and those who want to dive deeper into their mix. The web saysThe rest of the response follows suit, with an incredibly balanced tonality throughout the spectrum. In some cases, monitors designed for ‘accuracy above all else’ can be clinical and often don’t make music fun to listen to—making you work harder for your mixes. While there is a place and need for those types of monitors, I think IK found a pleasant middle ground. While tuned for accuracy from head to toe, the Precision series models still translate the energy and excitement in the source material. iLoud MTM uses the most advanced DSP techniques to provide total control over the speakers’ performance, delivering results simply not obtainable with traditional analog designs. As to the question I raised on the interaction between the iLoud MTM EQ options and the use of ARC, the protocol is that the desk EQ option is unavailable when ARC is operational, however the other EQ options can still be engaged on top of the corrected response. This makes reasonable sense to me. The desk EQ option is effectively an acoustic correction that, if the monitor is desk mounted, ARC should provide, while the LF and HF EQ options are more a matter of personal taste. All three models essentially yield the same frequency response, which boasts +/-1dB across 45 Hz–30 kHz, with its complete response reaching down to 36 Hz at -4dB. IK claims to achieve a true linear phase response above 150 Hz, There is not a lot of directivity control but given the small woofers, the situation is not too bad:
