Description

If you have solidly attached plaster with cracks spider-webbing through your walls and ceilings, you can stabilize and coat the entire surface with another product—wide sheets of fiberglass mat. A plaster washer is a thin metal disk that increases the size of the head of a drywall screw so that it doesn't pull through the plaster.

The washers will prevent the screw pulling right through the plaster and can be sunk a fraction into the surface. This has the great advantage of not having to make indentations in the plaster which can cause further cracking or loose pieces breaking off.For other ceilings, you will have to lift the floor in the room above to get access to the old lathes. I was afraid that because the spade bit cut through the existing old skim coat exposing the rough plaster coat and reducing the thickness of the plaster that the washer would be supporting, that this might not work every well. p>\n \n

  • Use a straightedge to guide your knife as you cut the wallboard along these layout lines.

Insert the wallboard patch into the hole and drive screws through the wallboard patch into each wallboard repair clip.p>\n

  • If the sagging is slight, or covers a small area, you can reattach the plaster to the wood lath by using long drywall screws fitted with plaster washers.

However, consider the effect of the steel hammer on the galvanized layer as shown, usually very thin on the plumbing strap aside from the raw edges. jpg\"/>\n

  • From a piece of scrap drywall, cut a patch that completely covers the hole in the wall. To reattach the sagging plaster to the lath, drive the washer with a power screwdriver or drill so that it penetrates the wood lath, wall studs, or ceiling joists.

Plaster sags from ceilings or bulges from walls when the plaster keys embedded around the wood lath break loose. It takes a few years to season inland newcomers, and even if they care there often are no good solutions, so these rust/corrosion problems do come up from time to time.

If you live in an older home with sagging plaster on your walls and ceilings, you can fix it.Then tighten each of them slowly, moving from one to another, so that the plaster gradually pulls tight against the lath. Place a large enough sheet of ply or similar material over the bulging area and wedge it back up with a sturdy length of timber from the floor below. As for cutting all the divots in the old plaster and on the fracture edges no less, that is a relatively weak support. Floridians concerned with the coastal humidity festival and rusting steel in plaster might use thinnest stainless sheet scrap in the same way.
