I've read other self-help books and while they're good and all, Mark Manson really engages you on a personal level. We realize how little people pay attention to the superficial details about us and we focus on doing things more for ourselves rather than for others. Although after a bout of depression last year (yea the "D" word get's thrown around alot these days), I myself was seeking out therapy. Once we embrace our fears, faults, and uncertainties—once we stop running from and avoiding, and start confronting painful truths—we can begin to find the courage and confidence we desperately seek.

I found that this book contained mostly opinions, with a few hidden facts chucked in for good measure. Before long, his off-the-cuff voice was resonating with a much broader audience via his brilliantly counterintuitive essays on happiness.True, there were a few good parts, and I would even categorized them as helpful, but it felt those truths had been taken out of context to suit to the author's own views.

If the book's intention was to make one immune (or resistant) to the difficulties the society put in one's way (as the name implies), at least for me, it failed spectacularly. After asking myself "If this doesn't work, I'll just try something else" I figured I had nothing to lose. Essentially, he says that the internet and the media demand that we give a f*ck about everything, but we only have so much time on Earth and so many f*cks to give and we have to choose who and what we spend those f*cks on.I still decided to share some (obvious) wisdom quotes, but I hope you won't be tempted to read this one because of them. By embracing our limitations and focusing on what truly matters, we can break free from the constant need for validation and external approval. There’s a lot of wisdom in this in-your-face personal growth audio, which is notable for its contrarian advice and a narrative style that sounds at once hip and adolescent. From the very beginning, his witty and irreverent writing style grabs your attention and refuses to let go. When it is not, he takes his mind off his own meaningless affairs by minding other people’s business.

I mean, lets be honest, a bright orange cover with "The subtle art of not giving a f*ck" boldly plastered on it, you can hardly miss it. Hilarious, confronting and damn refreshing, it’s more than a practical guidebook to choosing what’s important or unimportant in our lives, it’s a brutally honest and much needed reality check about our personal problems, fears and expectations. We all have so many perceptions of life because the people around us mold us into the person we are today, but when you finally start thinking outside of the box it really helps. The title and the colloquial style are what attracts someone like myself who has never read anything like this before and wouldn’t have without those qualities. One of the book's most powerful insights is the idea that we have a limited number of f*cks to give in our lives, and it's crucial to choose them wisely. As Bunk Moreland said in The Wire (which, fuck you, I still downloaded) to his partner Detective McNulty: “That’s what you get for giving a fuck when it wasn’t your turn to give a fuck.
