Weapon Categories are not strictly defined by the game. However, there are categories which are definitively weapon categories, as the contents of the category, fit established weapon rules. Other categories have items which may be classed as weapons, but also contain some which are ambiguous, or not weapons at all (these will be specified).

As the name suggests, burst assault rifles fire in three round bursts, while a basic assault rifle is full auto. The burst has some accuracy pros as a result over distance, but the class does have a lower damage and firing rate overall. Seeing as you can recreate the effects of a burst rifle with an assault just by tapping the trigger, it's worth swapping out for an assault rifle if you get a chance. Rarer Fortnite guns are always best, but DPS beats damage if you’re a poor shotYou have five inventory slots, and ideally you want to fill them with five of the following six item types, depending on your play style: Introduced with the V9.01 patch notes, the Tactical Assault Rifle acts less like an AR and more like an SMG - which is good, because as of this patch the Suppressed SMG is in dire need of some company. A high rate of fire makes for some very nice damage to players and structures alike, but only at close range. At long range, the gun is severely let down by some tremendous damage drop-off, so I can't see myself using this as my primary Assault Rifle. The bread and butter of the game, the SCAR is undoubtedly Fortnite’s best weapon and has been almost since the start. By abusing first-shot accuracy and also the gun’s crazy low bloom, you can breeze through a fully shielded opponent from a decent distance without much fuss. It’s also not too bad up close, either, just in case you don’t have an SMG to pair with your shotgun.

Although many shotguns do not need to be fully reloaded to fire, they still have their Reload Time listed as a full reload from an empty magazine.Mainly applies to the bullets fired by Sniper Rifles and Marksman Rifles and the arrows fired by Bows. Weaponry is not a strictly defined category in Battle Royale, but it can be inferred from different categories of items in the game. As a general rule, a weapon must:

Fortnite boasts a vast number of weapons that can all be found throughout the game's various locations. Players can search chests and vending machines, inside of which loot can be found. Amongst this loot, players will find weapons, healing jugs, and other items. The contents of loot chests are a surprise each time. The location of these chests are fixed, however, and only a certain number will appear at a time. Consumables are items that have an effect, then disappear. Many consumables are used to deal direct damage to players, in a similar vein to some Explosive Weapons, and many heal Health and/or Shields. In other shooters, you might want to bind certain weapons to any customisable mouse keys you have, and while that’s an option here it’s probably better to use those keys for your building tools. We may have seen the last of the Kymera Ray Gun, but I sure hope not. This alien tech weapon acted as an alternative to the SMG class and provided a continuous stream of death ray energy the likes of which Fortnite has never seen before or since. While it's weak on builds, it's devastating on players and vehicles. If it meant having the island invaded again so I could play with the Kymera Ray Gun once more, I might take the deal. Pump Shotgun (Epic Or Legendary)

A bit of a pointless addition when it was first introduced, the nerf to the Pump has left the door wide open for the Heavy to become the best shotgun in Fortnite. Available in Epic and Legendary rarities, you can shoot seven shells with the Heavy Shotgun before needing to reload it. In terms of what to carry around, small shield potions are the best bet. You can gulp them down in no time for 25 shield points, and although they can only give you a maximum of 50 at a time, they’re perfect for keeping you sustained between firefights. The standard shield potions, which grant you 50 points apiece, are good too, but generally you won’t be carrying them around because you’ll use them as soon as you see them. The poor old Tactical. Forever the bridesmaid, never the bride. With the v9.00 Patch Notes each variant of the Tac received a decent damage buff, and the removal of the Pump Shotgun meant it might finally see the light of popular play. Alas, the Combat Shotgun is superior in nearly every way, and the Tac is left outranged and (for once) slower than its competition. But it's still a powerful damage-dealer that can easily end a fight up close and personal, so be wary against players with a good Tac Shotgun.

The Heavy AR is a monster in terms of damage. It has the ability to shred an enemy at close, medium and even long range, but its accuracy means that, as with all assault rifles, you shouldn't just hold down the fire button until you run out of bullets. A slower rate of fire, slower reload time, and reduced magazine size all attempt to mitigate the sheer power of this gun, but the truth is a Blue Heavy AR is arguably worth taking over a Gold SCAR as things currently stand. Remember, flat damage is king in Fortnite, as long as you know how to use it.
