Description

The Seiko SNZF17 on the other hand is sportier (it’s a Seiko 5 Sports watch after all) with the bigger hands, markers and font.

It’s not too big and can easily fit onto any wrist, unless of course, you have very gigantic hands. This Seiko 5 model has indexes that are smaller and more compact, making it look more modern than the Seiko 5 SNZG15 watch. It has Arabic numeral minute markers all around the outer rim, while its hour markers are situated in a smaller, inner rim.A good value for money automatic watch with resemblance to the iconic Submariner – with Seiko’s own identity of course. With such price tag, it’s own of the more affordable auto watch that can be bought making it perfect for those wanting to try the magnificence of automatic watch. These aren’t the fanciest components you’ll see in a watch but they are, indeed, the greatest you can get at a modest price. Review on the Seiko Sea Urchin (SNZF15/SNZF17) 1. Case The Seiko 5 Sea Urchin (either SNZF15 or SNZF17) presents itself with the greatest things you can have for its price point. It’s a stylish and affordable option if you’re looking for a watch that comes close to the feel of the Rolex Submariner. Given that most of its parts are reminiscent of the iconic Rolex, this timepiece should be every new collector’s must-have. Another thing, I know the Orient and the Invicta is offering more feature-rich watches at a lower price point. But Seiko Sea Urchin is far superior watch in terms of build quality. It’s the same with the rectangle markers which are slightly wider than the Subs. In effect, these make the watch look sportier and has more lume applied on it.

Which of these watches is really the best one for you? Let’s break it down per characteristic to help you make a decision. Size The Seiko SNZF17 is fitted on a sporty and robust 22mm three-link stainless steel bracelet. It has removable end links. And now, we’re highlighting an affordable diver watch that completes any and all collections: the iconic Seiko Sea Urchin from the Seiko 5 family. The Seiko 5 Criteria But the links are not made solid stainless steel but they are hollow inside. So, the bracelet feels light and flimsy. It somehow makes the watch feel cheap. First, let’s talk about the Seiko Series 5. I’d call the Series 5 to be the automatic watch design for the everyday man. Durability, affordability, and the luxury of the automatic movement are the main inspirations behind the collection.

Next, you should determine which features are important to you. Although Seiko 5 watches tend to have similar specifications, some models have special functions that others don’t. While most Seiko 5 models are classic pieces, with understated design features and muted colors, this model comes with a textured green dial, a green nylon strap, a green bezel, and an orange second hand. An automatic movement doesn’t draw power from any battery or solar energy. Rather, it uses a rotor that moves along with your wrist movement. The rotor then winds the movement.

Which is why I have the opinion that the Seiko SNZF17 is more suited for an everyday beater watch, watch that you can use practically anywhere and anything. With a full-winding, this caliber would last for 41+ hours, which is again a better number than the typical 38 hours reserve power. The most glaring similaritiesbetween these two watches are the index markers, bezel and dial signature. This is one of the reasons why Seiko (and other Japanese watch brands) are respectable in this field. Their willingness to ensure their products have identity and not just a cheap copycat of a popular watch is commendable. It’s also widely known as poor man’s Rolex Submariner for its Submariner-inspired design – and no, I’m not talking about the Invicta 8926 here.

Seiko Sea Urchin Watch Review Summary

But then again, what’s the deal about this watch? Here, I’m going to share with you what I think about the SNZF17. Seiko 5 SNZF17K1 watch has been interesting to look at today, I like the overall design of the watch with that cool Submariner feel. Most regular readers will know I rate most of the Seiko 5 watches quite highly and this one is no different. It’s easy to see why it’s one of Seiko’s most popular watches with popular design and affordable price. This is so that it can be used to time dive duration easily (read my guide on how to use these HERE).
