CM: But that's my point! Everybody expects me to be funny all the time. I'm so funny people do not realize how much research I do on my topics. I have a serious side. I want to inform, to research, to make a serious contribution to society! It really was interesting to read a book written from a non-human perspective. It is so much fun, so unique. I’m certainly open to reading more books like this. With Herbert’s usual flair (although there is a lot less horror compared to what we are given in some of his other books), we’re pulled into the story. Even though the main character is a dog, you connect with him. You understand him. You understand what he is going through. You cannot help but want the best for him as he searches for his answers. Robert Harris’ Archangel is a pretty decent novel but unfortunately it’s not up there among his best. In the 70s, Jim Herbert was a favourite author of mine. There was a "friendly" rivalry going on between him and Stephen King. Difference is: King just got better, while Herbert faded away to his death in 2013. I don't want to give the plot away, but, Fluke, from his early puppyhood knows that he is different from the other dogs. He is plagued by distant memories which will him to embark on a journey to discover the truth about himself. Along the way he meets some colourful characters and gets into all sorts of mischievous doggy trouble!

Fluke is able to calibrate most of the electrical equipment herself. But also for the management of your total assets Fluke is the proper choice. I’ll start at the beginning, though. First off, it’s a wonderful idea. Is Fluke a man turned dog or a dog who thinks he is a man? You do not know what to believe. If it is the former, what cause this change? Being a Herbert book, my first thought was magic – yet there are other possibilities. We have countless supernatural possibilities all the way through to the possibility of reincarnation. What, exactly, is to blame? Of course, Herbert is not going to give us the answer until the end of the book. We need to work for that. We need to read about the life of the dog before we can understand the why of the situation. A retired professional MLB player has met a terrifying end—and, considering the rumors swirling about his past, the list of suspects could fill a small stadium. Among them could soon be Delores, Hannah’s mother, who publicly held a grunge against the victim after he infamously dunked her in the tank at a previous county fair . . .rather move onto one of his tastier books - Lamb appeals. Done slamming now, leave off on a lighter note. Fluke’ by ‘ James Herbert’ – who is often referred to as the ‘ English Stephen King’ – is a ‘ chilling yet warm’ kind of supernatural tale, told through the thoughts and sights of a confused and special dog – a dog who is ‘ Fluke by name, Fluke by nature’ -, which can delight you as a reader.

It is obvious that Robert Harris is one of the best purveyors of historical fiction who can be found on the shelves of any bookstore. Whether exploring the Munich Conference, the German missile campaign during World War II, a trilogy that explores the struggle for power in ancient Rome, the machinations of a Papal conclave, or the Dreyfus Affair are among his fourteen bestselling novels. The depth and varied subjects of his writing reflect the breadth of historical knowledge and his commitment to producing historical fiction that is readable and interesting for everyone while creating stories that are made up of actual events and characters among those that he develops as his plots evolve.

Set in post-Soviet Russia Harris posits the existence of a secret notebook that once belonged to Stalin and sends his main character, Dr. C.R.A. "Fluke" Kelso, a professor visiting Moscow, after the mysterious papers. Secreted by Beria after Stalin's death, no one seems to know of its existence. As the conference in Moscow comes to an end the bodyguard who helped Beria hide it comes to Kelso and then the high speed chases after the notebook begins.

Leggendolo invece, mi sono dovuto ricredere, è uno dei suoi lavori più ispirati, tra quelli meno famosi e spesso considerati (almeno da me) minori.

Robert Harris is the author of the very successful and previously reviewed Fatherland, the kind of novel I usually do not read because it relies on the “what if” kind of assumptions that I find trite and silly. But that novel worked quite well. It assumed that Hitler had won the war, that he had successfully hidden the details of the Holocaust, and that he was about to begin friendly relations with the United States under president Kennedy. The a Berlin detective stumbles across evidence of the killing of the Jews and the peace talks threaten to unravel bringing the war of officialdom down on the detective. It was a surprisingly good read.
