Michael – Having tasted a fair number of whiskies, I’ve found that they tend to fall into a few different camps for me. But despite the nod to the Islays, for me this is very much first and foremost an Irish whiskey (with some peat), rather than being like a true Islay whisky that happens to have been made in Ireland. I've been eyeing this for a while as I love Irish whiskey and I love peated Islays, so this seemed like a perfect concept, though having read a number of reviews on here I had lowered my expectations. Now under the global ownership of The Beam Suntory group after they purchased the distillery founded in 1987 in County Louth from The Teeling family and home to the brands of Lockes, Tyrconnel single malts, Greenore Single Grain and the peated Connemara range. Only twice distilled, unlike the usual triple distillation of Irish malts, with the barley peated, Connemara is a relatively new whiskey that seems to hearken back to an Islay more than anything.
