Description

Barroux tells the story of young boy, Jonas) who loves the sea and sailing upon it, and in particular, the whale that inhabits the water. But as new toy animals start arriving, Blue Kangaroo worries that there just isn't enough room for him anymore. The lighthouse keeper removes all the trash and tells Blue to eat jellyfish instead of bags, making the comparison in appearance. The story introduces young readers to protecting the environment and wildlife from the waste humans toss away. We’ve now shared and extended the idea of the cog spy glasses or ‘lollypops’ more widely and they’re getting a big thumbs up from people working at the ‘understanding cog concepts’ and ‘making simple links’ level.

An introductory tale about the impact plastic waste has on the ocean is told through a lighthouse keeper's friendship with a whale named Blue. The artist Barroux takes on yet another environmental issue in this lovely book - the tons of plastic filling our oceans, and the horrifying effects all this trash is having on sea life. We hope that through this initiative many more will decide to give leukemia patients a chance for cure. At the end there is a page for adults to read with anyone who will listen to the need to save our fish and oceans by stopping the use of single use plastics. There are also wonderful videos where the children in a classroom could see a whale breaching, which is what Blue does at the end of the book.

I felt like the author did a great job showing what pollution does to animals but made it simple enough for young children to understand. Earlier this year we were able to celebrate the registration of our 500,000th potential donor, with the knowledge that we have given more than 900 patients, a second chance of life. Although the story or the illustrations didn't blow me away, I loved that this was about a child caring about what is happening in the ocean. In these colourful illustrations and simple yet impactful texts, a story quickly unfolds and ends with a strong message to save the oceans and save the whales.

I Love You, Blue' with story and pictures by Barroux is a picture book about a lighthouse keeper's love of a particular whale. As cute as the cover is, it is definitely a little deceiving as to what we're diving into, but overall this is a very important book, with a cute and easy way of talking about a serious subject with our young ones. With its beautiful pictures and minimal but effective text, this will be a wonderful and accessible introduction to caring for the earth for young readers. This simple story with water-colored illustrations teaches us the impact pollution has on the ocean and its inhabitants. It's a sweet story that can be looked at from several levels of development and plant seeds for the future. Team Margot Stem Cell and Bone Marrow Awareness Day will assist in the endeavours to educate the public and hopefully encourage donors, from all ethnic groups, to step forward all over the world.
