So, is Smith and Cross a good rum? The answer to that question is a bit complicated. It all depends on what you are looking for in a rum. If you are looking for a rum that is light and fruity, then Smith and Cross is not the right rum for you. However, if you are looking for a rum that has a lot of flavor and is a bit spicy, then Smith and Cross is definitely worth trying. What is a good drink to mix with rum? The current owners of the Smith and Cross distillery are Ian and Natalie McFarlane. The McFarlane family has owned and operated the distillery since the 1970s. I was very surprised to find that this is a Hampden rum (I had heard others mention that it came from Worthy Park). It is outstanding, to put it bluntly. If you want to mix Smith and Cross with ginger ale, some people recommend using a spicy ginger ale like Canada Dry Hot. This will help to balance out the sweetness of the ginger ale and the spiciness of the rum. Smith and Cross is made with a blend of rums from Jamaica. The rums are blended and then flavored with a mix of spices, which gives it its characteristic flavor.

There are a few things that need to be taken into account when answering this question, such as the ingredients that are used and the cost of those ingredients. For non-Lemon Hart 151 applications, there are some good overproof options. Please don't bother with Bacardi 151 (July 23,2017: Bacardi is no longer on the market), even as ignition fuel for flaming drinks. Rather than soaking a sugar cube or crouton in 151 prof rum, soak it in lemon extract. You'll get a much better flame. Rhum agricole is the designation given to the spirits made from sugar cane on the island of Martinique. The process for producing rhum agricole on Martinique is governed and defined by an AOC, the Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée. Ok, technically you can have a rhum from Martinique that does not adhere to the AOC and therefore cannot use that labeling. But the good ones are labeled with the AOC designation so for the conversation here I'll consider all agricole rhum from Martinique as adhering to the AOC. Agricole rhum from Martinique is made from pressed sugar cane juice rather than molasses, which imparts more of the soil/land into the spirit. This is the biggest distinction from other styles of rum. The "blanc" rhum agricole is un-aged, though it may have rested (n a vat) for a period of time before being bottled. This rum is your best bet for a 'ti punch.
