Andrew Morton wasn't disrespectful and it's clear that he loved The Queen. This book was written before her death, it basically ends months before she dies. The Queen led an extraordinary life, filled with lots of drama. And interestingly her life was impacted greatly by American women. She only became The Queen because her uncle abdicated the throne to be with an American divorcee. And we all know that at the end of her life America's Princess Meghan came through to free Harry. Btw Andrew Morton went easy on Meghan, not surprising given the book he wrote about her but Harry....Mr Morton has some problems with him.

I found this quite an improvement on the Queen and I, which it follows. It is more about character and situation and less about making political points. Another is the plot around dogs, which are relevant to a part of the story but I found the whole speaking dogs a bit too much and could've been left out. Or, just like the previous book, kept to a minimum.The queen was so controlled that when she did, very occasionally, lose her temper, those present remembered the moment for the rest of their lives."

People are only on benefits because of the recession, and the system is against them etc. Even the deadbeats and criminals on the estate aren't really bad people, in this story.It is then revealed that the whole story was a nightmare. The Queen wakes to find that the Conservatives have won the election instead, as indeed actually happened, and John Major has remained Prime Minister.
