Description

MicroFreak Stellar comes with an exclusive selection of presets designed to boldly go where no Freak has gone before. Wavetable – a method of synthesis where the waveform transitions through a table of different waveforms, Versatile Sound Design and Algorithms - With the latest update, three new algorithms, namely bass, sawX, and harm, have been introduced. These algorithms are also available in Noise Engineering's Virt Iter module, which offers flexibility in additive harmonic colour, wave folding, modulation, and other features. By including these algorithms, you can push your digital signal to analogue extremes and explore a range of possibilities. It's an ideal way to enhance your audio experience. MicroFreak is a four-voice paraphonic synth – when the Paraphonic button is engaged, you can play up to four voices at once, but all share the same filter, envelope and under-the-hood VCA settings. Rewire the MicroFreak Stellar’s architecture with its comprehensive modulation matrix. With up to seven simultaneous destinations, three of which are freely assignable, and five sources, including an ADSR envelope, cycling envelope and 6-shape LFO, you can dive deep into complex sound design and discover an endless array of synth sounds. Inspiring Sequencing

Arturia have also added three brand-new synthesis engines to the MicroFreak’s new edition, all utilising granular synthesis to really make the MicroFreak stand out! Bigger and bolder than ever before. The already expansive nature of the MICROFREAK's preset slots have increased from 256 to a generous 384. This gives you even more freedom to make the synthesizer accommodate your workflow. Thanks to its instantaneous nature, saving and recalling sounds is a breeze. This will prove particularly useful in high-pressure environments such on-stage and in the studio. MicroFreak Stellar is a hybrid synthesizer that combines digital oscillators, analog filters, quirky modulation, a uniquely flat PCB keybed, and expressive sequencing with a subtly out-of-this-world aesthetic design. Interplanetary Synth Explorer For more complex wave scanning, there’s a Wavetable oscillator; the Harmonic oscillator, complete with Chorus, is useful for dialling in additive, bell-like timbres; the Karplus-Strong mode is a physical-modelling oscillator that facilitates the creation of bow- and string-like sounds; and the Modal Resonator replicates the tuned ringing of real instruments and drums.Mullen, Matt (2021-10-26). "Arturia's V4.0 MicroFreak firmware update adds WaveUser synth engine and 64 new presets". MusicRadar . Retrieved 2022-10-25. You can even use the keyboard to define and change the pitch of your sounds, or the sequencer to set up full drum beats, slice up synth sounds, or chop vocals! Despite the new look, the MicroFreak Stellar Edition still offers the same great features that musicians have come to love. The touch keyboard with 25 keys and polyphonic aftertouch is still there, along with the orange knobs and small OLED display. The synth still boasts various digital oscillator engines and an analog state variable filter that can be switched between low-pass, band-pass, and high-pass characteristics. The next chapter in the Freak story. MicroFreak is the hybrid desktop synth that refuses to stop evolving and continues to inspire with every update.

New Hardware and Updated Design - The limited edition MicroFreak builds upon the success of its original version by offering a fresh aesthetic and updated firmware with four robust engines. With the newly added sampling engine, you can now manipulate and trigger recorded audio directly from the MicroFreak, allowing you to experiment with your preferred samples using the analogue filter and modulation controls. Additionally, the firmware update introduces three new granular engines: Scan, Cloud, and Hit modes, which offer an immersive granular exploration experience. You'll be pleased to know that four-voice unison mode can now be used for all oscillator types. This provides you with a unison spread of up to 12 semitones, all of which can be used as a destination for modulation. Achieving "phat" sounding basses and melodies has never been so easy! In addition to sample import and granular engines, the firmware update also improves the synth’s envelopes, making them faster and snappier. And with over 300 factory presets and 512 slots for user presets, the MicroFreak Stellar Edition is a synth that will keep musicians inspired for years to come. The hybrid nature of the MicroFreak Stellar allows you to blend digital sound engines with a resonant analogue filter inspired by the classic Oberheim SEM. Experiment with low-pass, band-pass and high-pass modes to make your synth sounds whisper, scream and launch into self-oscillating orbit. Complex Sound Design Possibilities Building on the success of the original MicroFreak, this limited edition version not only features a brand new look but the updated firmware introduces four powerful engines. The new sampling engine allows you to use manipulate and trigger recorded audio directly from the MicroFreak, allowing you to run your favourite samples through the powerful analog filter and modulation controls. Three new granular engines are also included, comprised of Scan, Cloud and Hit modes allowing you to journey into the depths of granular exploration. The 12 modes cover a huge range of analogue-emulating and digital types, giving massive tonal potential. The Basic Waves and Virtual Analog oscillators serve up continuously variable waveforms for classic VA sound design, while the Superwave mode delivers detuned fatness for more modern basses, leads and pads. Added sample and grain engines, 128 more preset slots, and a sample and hold mode for keybed modulation. The Stellar edition released with this firmware. [3] MicroFreak Stellar & the V5 firmware update brings 21 different oscillator modes to the table, so you can go bigger, deeper, and weirder with your sound than ever before. On the downside, being a digital synth, a lot of these oscillator types can sound a little… well, digital. However, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing – when you need a brash, harmonically complex sound that can slice through a mix, MicroFreak can do it in so many different ways. Filter fun The Arturia MICROFREAK Stellar Paraphonic Hybrid Synthesizer combines the best of both worlds with analog and digital synthesis engines that provide a diverse tonal palette; allowing you to create virtually any sound you can think of. Building on the success of the original MicroFreak this limited-edition 'Stellar' version not only features an updated finish, but it also includes a range of new features. Three new granular engines comprised of Scan, Cloud and Hit modes allow you to explore the depths of granular synthesis. A new sampling engine is also included that provides the means to manipulate and trigger recorded audio.

What if we told you that you could get virtual analog, wavetable, FM, vocoder sounds and beyond in a single synth? If you haven’t tried granular synthesis before and don’t have a MicroFreak to hand, I’d recommend trying a granular synth plugin to experiment with this unique style. It’s great for soundbeds and unique textures. Sometimes excellent for comforting ambient textures, granular is also great at creating warped or stretched sounds for more ominous moods or some out-there percussive sounds. To hook up modulation, spin the Matrix encoder to select a specific crossing point between source and destination, indent it to activate, then turn the knob left or right to apply negative or positive modulation. It’s a fast, intuitive workflow that encourages you to try out multiple mod assignments on the fly.

Wholegrain Goodness

All the original modes are still included such as analog modelling and Karplus-strong to physical modelling engines as well as integrating the legendary Plaits oscillator modes from Mutable Instruments via open source. The MicroFreak also features a rich 12dB/oct analog filter which allows you to shape and sculpt your sound with maximum precision. Offering powerful warmth and a distinctive character; the MicroFreak is perfect for music production, sound design and live performance. The MicroFreak is a synthesizer manufactured by French music technology company Arturia and released in 2019. [1] Described as a "Hybrid Experimental Synthesizer", it uses 18 digital sound engines (algorithms) to synthesize raw tones. [2] This digital oscillator is then fed into a multi-mode analog filter, giving the MicroFreak its hybrid sounds. While the oscillator is unashamedly digital, the filter it feeds into is fully analogue, albeit digitally controlled. Inspired by the classic Oberheim SEM design, this state-variable, two-pole tone-shaper can be switched between low-, high- and band-pass modes with the Type button, and is flanked by Cutoff and Resonance knobs. Digital oscillators with variable modes, with integrated open-source Plaits engine created by Mutable Instruments

The same loveable hybrid beast that’s shaken up the synth world, retrofitted for out-of-this-world sound exploration. The new firmware adds a huge suite of new features, including a new sampling engine, that will let you process and manipulate existing sounds through the MicroFreak’s filters, envelopes and modulation matrix to warp and shape them. Digital Oscillator Modes: Over 20 modes, including modes from Noise Engineering & Mutable Instruments The Arturia MicroFreak Stellar Hybrid Synthesizer is a limited edition, space-age inspired version of the popular MicroFreak. With its distinctive grey exterior and unique cosmic graphics, this desktop synth is not just visually striking, but also features an exciting new firmware with four additional sampling and granular sound engines.
