Hogwarts has a mysterious logo that mirrors the era it began. It also evokes the core values of the founders. The Hogwarts logo is a shield divided into four. They stand for the houses in the school. Also, they represent each founder and the students’ faculty.

The house of the snake, Slytherin, adores green and silver. When combined, they evoke the element of water. While green conveys ambition and harmony, silver denotes hope and gracefulness. Slytherin’s wordmark enjoys a simple, readable serif font. Minerva McGonagall is the Head of Gryffindor House. She is the Transfiguration teacher at Hogwarts. Minerva is a stern witch, but very righteous.

At birth, a bird detects children with magic and enters their names in an enormous book. Then, when they turn eleven, they receive letters from the school. The letter also outlines their school’s supplies—uniforms, spell books, wands, scales, telescopes, etc. Congratulations! Gryffindor's entrance changed locations once throughout the film series. In the first film, the students go down a long hallway to reach the entrance portrait. In the third film, the portrait is located very close to the Grand Staircase. It can only be assumed that this is its location for the rest of the series as the outside of the entrance would not be seen again for the rest of the film series. The lion represents Gryffindor and appears in many places throughout Hogwarts – as well as on Luna Lovegood’s roaring hat! Lions are brave, daring and bold. They differ from other cats as they live in a group, also known as a pride, so it’s possible this animal was chosen to represent the loyalty and teamwork displayed by Gryffindor students. The Head of House before and during Harry Potter's time was Minerva McGonagall. [8] Minerva became the Head of House possibly when she was appointed Transfiguration professor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, taking over Albus Dumbledore's previous teaching position when he became Headmaster. Neville Longbottom was known to have become the Head of House after Minerva was made Headmistress in 1998 following the end of the Second Wizarding War.
