i love the way she integrates asian culture without it being stereotypical ughh i just love love love her. although the book was undeniably remarkable, it lacked the detailed explanations of how and why she acquired the power of invisibility. i 100% wasn’t expecting the commentary on racism and classism, but it is something that should always be talked about when it’s appropriate, and it was woven into the story so well. There’s a great moment where she remembers getting second place to Henry in a contest and cried, coz she’d worked really hard to win the RMB500 prize while Henry just entered the contest last-minute on a whim.Upon discovering her parents can no longer afford their portion of her schooling and with the new ability she now obtains, Alice takes into her own hands to devise a plan to earn all the money she needs to pay for her own tuition.
