As I explained in my full review of the Lumix 12-35mm, the optical stabilisation is very good, delivering sharp results down to an average of 1.3s at 12mm and 1/10s at 35mm. When updated with the newest firmware and paired with the GX8’s Dual I.S. system, you can achieve even better results – specifically, an average of 1s at 12mm and 1/3s at 35mm. DMC-GX8, 1 sec, f/ 3,2, ISO 200 – Lumix 12-35mm What you'll give up is the constant f/2.8 max aperture. If it's something you don't take advantage of very often then you will probably find the 12-60/3.5-5.6 to be perfectly suitable. I have both and I do enjoy the lighter weight and wider range of the 12-60. But I also value an f/2.8 aperture and often use it for impromptu portraits and shooting in lowish light. muljao, I review cameras for a living, so I am a "user" of all sensor formats. I absolutely love the OM-1 and E-M1 series! Absolutely fantastic cameras. The barrel and mount of the lens are both made of metal, while rubber and plastic are used for the ribbed zoom ring and petal-shaped lens hood respectively. Happily, it is both dust and splash proof, so you can use it with weatherproof cameras like the GH4 or GX8 without any worries. The Lumix 12-35mm with the petal-shaped lens hood

Recommended (2012 to 2019) if you need the aperture speed and don't mind the optical corrections needed

For low light work especially interiors I added the PL 12mm f/1.4, got all I need covered now and don't regret not buying the 12-60 at all EDUCATION: Chris graduated Magna Cum Laude from Adelphi University with a degree in Communications in Journalism in 2009. The LEICA DG VARIO-ELMARIT 12-35mm F/2.8 ASPH POWER O.I.S. offers greater versatility than the LUMIX G X VARIO 12-35mm F/2.8 II ASPH, thanks to a shorter focusing distance of just 0.15m (at the wide end) with a larger magnification ratio of 0.21x (at 17mm focal length). let me say that the PL12-60 was great, I had a lot of great images, and it was not too much heavier. I would be happy with that lens. But, I was trying to replace my 12-35, so I had a reference for comparison (of two good lenses). hi i have bought this lens .but when i opened the box there is a dust on the lens barrel.i phoned the company i bought from they said its the panasonic factory where is dust.is this correct I don't understand the bad-feeling against the PL 12-60. It is much better than the lumix 12-60 and on a par with the 12-35 and 12-40 with extra reach. The advise always seems to be buy one of the others. If you need the reach and can live with the variable aperture, then buy the Leica- simples. But only a bit disappointed. This is still a lens that will find room in my bag for many situations. It's not going to be my landscape wide angle: I'll carry the 12mm Olympus for that. It also doesn't have quite enough subject isolation at 35mm f/2.8, so I'll carry the 45mm Olympus for that.

This lens feels very solidly built, despite being lightweight and compact. It is constructed from high quality plastics, that have a dark grey gun-metal finish and the lens mount is made from metal. Even though this lens has a constant f/2.8 maximum aperture, it only weighs 305g, which makes it feel right at home on even the most compact Micro Four Thirds camera bodies, such as the Panasonic Lumix GF3 used for testing. The lens is designed to be resistant to dust and moisture, making it suitable for using in inclement conditions. The LUMIX G VARIO 12-35mm F2.8 ASPH is relatively small and light for a fast zoom lens covering a 35mm equivalent focal range of 24-70mm. Zoomed out to the 70mm setting, it measures just over 10cms in length. An extra 3cms is taken up by the supplied lens hood, which helps prevent lens flare and also protects the protruding front element from scratches and finger marks. The rings on the 12-35mm are rubberized but the 12-60mm has rings made out of metal as well which give off a premium look and feel.
