If you are in Australia or New Zealand (DVD Region 4), note that almost all DVDs distributed in the UK by the BBC and 2entertain are encoded for both Region 2 and Region 4. The UK and Australasia are in the same Blu-ray region (B). Robert Popper is a writer, producer and performer, best known for creating the Channel 4 smash hit comedy, Friday Night Dinner, as well as the award-winning spoof BBC2 science show, Look Around You. He has worked on many of Britain’s top comedy shows including Peep Show, The Inbetweeners, The IT Crowd and Stath Lets Flats, as well as writing on South Park. Find sources: "Robert Popper"– news · newspapers · books · scholar · JSTOR ( October 2017) ( Learn how and when to remove this template message) Popper created, wrote and produced six series of the Channel 4 sitcom Friday Night Dinner. Series 1 aired from February to April 2011 and won the Rose D'or Award for Best Sitcom. It received two BAFTA nominations and four British Comedy Award nominations. Sometimes you simply have to read who he is writing to and it just makes you laugh. ‘The romantic novelists association’ excellent, this should be good.

Robin Cooper Week begins today! BBC - BBC Comedy Blog: Robin Cooper Week begins today!

Cooper's letters are obvious, shrill and unfunny which probably explains why the replies are similarly leaden and flat. He is the classroom wag and the cheeky chappie on the playground but he is nowhere near publishable meterial. In donaldson's hands the spoofs would have been smooth parodies of the skill of craig brown. It didn't help with the audio version that he put on this high-pitched nasal voice which whilst offset slightly by Dawn French and Peter Serafinowicz (who it turns out has a voice I would listen to all day long) there isn't enough of them to make it worth listening to a voice that makes me feel like someone is assaulting my eardrums. Let's say that the history of correspondence as literature began with Cicero, proceeded to the mash notes of Abelard and Heloise, and took on new dimensions with such epistolary novels as Pamela, Les Liaisons Dangereuses and Dracula. High points of recent decades include the The Groucho Letters (where Mr. Marx waggles a virtual cigar at the likes of T.S. Eliot and Harry S. Truman) and last year's Letters of Noel Coward, which went to print bearing two letters faked by a charismatic felon whose memoir appears on this list. It’s Christmas so, you know, we’re going to be upbeat and all that, so let’s have a look at a funny book from 2004 from the fictional character Robin Cooper (Robert Popper is the man behind all of this, in the same way our esteemed editor Mr. Wapojif is really called Arnold Schwarzenegger). I used to watch BBC all the time. But now we get BBCA but I found recently that the same shows are there. My Brit friends don’t believe I just discovered Dr Who. We go more for violence here. I did take an online course through BBC . Classic Theatre , I , Claudius it was. I will be on the look out for Peep Show. Is there any violence at all?More recently he’s written the pretty decent sitcom Friday Night Dinner, but he’s also worked for the often excellent Peep Show.

In addition to the two Timewaster books, The Timewaster Letters Compendium features a host of audio exclusive content, including many of Popper's ridiculously silly prank telephone calls, in which he poses as Robin Cooper. There's also an introduction by Popper himself, a fun, informative conversation between Popper and Peter Serafinowicz all about the history of The Timewaster Letters, and a world exclusive with The Cement Murder Mystery, the first thriller story (and possibly the world's worst thriller story) penned by Robin Cooper himself, and read by Jonathan Keeble. My favorite is the letter to the Ball and Roller Bearing Manufacturers Association asking them to write to his son "Michael" who "threatened to flood the house when we are out if we so much as touch one of his bearings" in his collection of 95,000 ball-bearings. The Timewaster Letters is about busybody Robin Cooper, who keeps himself occupied by sending a relentless series of twee, but thoroughly idiotic and regularly inexplicable, letters to businesses, organisations, and whoever else he decides to in his spare time. A new audio version of Robert Popper's hit prank books The Timewaster Letters and Return Of The Timewaster Letters has been recorded. Now comes a new generation of 'wits' and standards have clearly fallen. Robin cooper has also had the idea of writing provocative, obviously spoof letters to various people and organisations and printing both sides of the correspondence. i say 'obviously' spoof because of the low standard of deceptive prose, but the victims seem not to spot it.

Robin Cooper (Author of The Timewaster Letters) - Goodreads

Hello, it's Robin Cooper here. How are you? I'm in fine fettle. In fact, so fine a fettle am I in, that I've just whistled thrice. Only the fact that life is so often stranger than invention can have prevented these people from spotting that Cooper's letters were obviously spoofs. He writes to the publishers Dorling Kindersley proposing his children's book, 'Kelly Telly and his Smelly Belly'; the United Kingdom Spoon Collectors' Club; the Ball and Roller Bearing Manufacturers' Association for advice on his son's uncontrollable ball bearing fetish, as well as more prominent bodies such as Ikea and the Liberal Democrats. Cooper has been on the wrong end of many a broadcast telephone conversation, from radio phone-ins to TV sports talk shows, and wrote the Timewaster Letters series. I have never before felt so utterly let down and lied to by a bunch of cover acclamations. “Downright hilarious”, claim the Observer and “the funniest book you’ll read this year” state the Guardian. Ugh. I should have guessed, I suppose, when I saw the other acclaims written by comedians such as Avid Merrion (of Bo’ Selecta! fame) and Matt Lucas. The truth is, I simply don’t find them funny. I would rather not be slapped in the face with silliness and blatancy, but that is a personal preference.
