Description

Chaos Knights get several faction special rules. Some are identical to Imperial Knights, while others stand out more specifically. Traitoris Lances

Isle of Man, Isle of Wight, Northern Ireland and the Scottish Highlands) may take longer to reach you. Where dual thermal is the quantity, this is the quality. Having one of these as a Dreadblade Iconoclast gives you huge flexibility to turn it into a murder engine appropriate to the situation. If you see enemy planes, you give it the Helm of Warp Sight, and it tears them from the sky. If you see enemy hordes, you take Vow of Carnage and katamari this forwards until it can stomp out entire units in a single phase. If you see enemy vehicles, taking Vow of the Beastslayer means it at least competes – and if they’re titanic or characters, you slap on the Path to Glory pact for hit re-rolls. Tzeentchian Pyrothrone: Your Knight is a psyker that can Smite and Deny. Generally if your opponent has good psykers you want this out somewhere. You also always explode if you die from a perils, which is hilarious, especially as it doesn’t say the standard MWs from a perils explosion don’t go off too.The Despoiler variant is the one most people want. It can take Avenger Gatling Cannons, the other variants cannot. AVGs are very good guns, especially when taken in pairs.

Moiraxes are easily the best War Dog, so if you want to build up Chaos Knight detachments in a serious way you should consider paying the resin tax. Warglaives The War Dogs have now been split into 5 datasheets, but it does simplify them a little bit. In general, most lost 2″ of movement, and chainswords got much better with the two profiles now. Ranged options are still all decent making for a mostly good assortment of options for the cheaper and smaller “knights”. The Knight Desecrator is a truly imposing kit in every sense of the word – it towers over most other models on the tabletop and a choice of vicious faceplates and optional chains, pipes, spikes and horns allow you to customise your Knight, making it as malicious as you want. They can also be armed with a choice of either reaper chainsword or thunderstrike gauntlet with which to crush any foe that survives a barrage from its laser destructor. The single big knight (usually a Desecrator) flanked by war dogs. This is the more mobile of the lists, with lots of mobility around the board edges and better at going wide on 6-objective maps. It also has the ability to take Abhor the Witch.

The winners here are “Knight Diabolus”, “Eager for the Kill” and “Warp-Haunted Hull”. Knight Diabolus is a nice flat bonus that’s always neat to have around, and while Eager for the Kill is a distinctly weaker “Landstrider”, if you have a melee Knight it’s still good. Storm of Darkness is the most commonly chosen secondary for Chaos Knights and should reliably score you around 9 VP; 12 is going to be a tall ask, and opponents still have the option to remove your knights before they finish, but 6 is going to be the floor most of the time. Other than the Moirax, which we’ve already discussed, there’s only really one relevant option coming out of this. The Atropos and Magaera are both sufficiently “fine” that they’ll serve you well in less serious games, but the only option for a big Knight that has top table potential is the Castigator. Infernal Cerastus Knight Castigator Trail of Destruction: One of the best reasons to be Chaos Knights, granting re-rolls to hit using the “good” wording (i.e. “can re-roll hits” not “re-roll failed hits”) for a phase at a very reasonable price

Space Marines take a heavy hit on Desolation Marines (+50pts) and a modest one on Whirlwinds (+25pts). While that’s a clear hit, overall the suite of changes is probably a positive for them, because Aeldari having a reduced ability to just cleanse them off the table lets their strengths come to the fore. Expect to see people actually exploring Kill Teams in Deathwatch rather than just maxing Desolation Marines, and lots of spins on Ultramarines shooting with Guilliman.

The Knight Desecrator is a great kit, the miniature towers over a majority of the other models on the tabletop and comes with a choice of vicious faceplates, chains, pipes, spikes and horns so that you can make your Knight as unique and malicious as you wish. There is also a choice of either the reaper chainsword or thunderstrike gauntlet to help you crush any foe that manages to survive the impact of the laser destructor. And then some of the stuff here is just baffling. The World Eaters Lord of Skulls going up to an eye-watering 525 points is just insane. Who lost to a Lord of Skulls and decided this was necessary? It’s literally psycho shit. Since the Horus Heresy, thousands of individual Knights and even entire Knight Houses have been corrupted by Chaos and betrayed the Imperium. The first Renegade Knights appeared during the Horus Heresy, when many of the Knightly households sided with Warmaster Horus. However, since the Heresy, many more Knights have betrayed the Imperium. Some were corrupted after their worlds were swallowed by Warp Storms, while others were slowly driven mad by the endless carnage they witnessed and inflicted on countless campaigns. Infernal Quest – Basically gives the Warlord ObSec, and makes the WL count as 10 models if both units have ObSec-style rules. The Stalker, Karnivore and Brigand stray further from the holy STC of the Armiger, cursed machines haunted by Pterrorshade warp entities. The Karnivore is given over entirely to melee slaughter and the Brigand to close-range firepower, while the Stalker freely mixes armament. points might seem like a lot to dedicate to an “allied” choice, but this Detachment has a place in pretty much any Chaos force. Between the War Dog autocannons and the Knight Desecrator’s laser destructor, you’ll have some flexible firepower.
