Description

It is rare to find a middle grade sci-fi piece of this complexity though, and budding sci-fi fans will be fascinated by this. It reminds me of Prey by Michael Crichton, about hostile “humans” formed by a swarm of nano bots. 😮😮

Major Timothy Nigel "Tim" Peake CMG (born 7 April 1972) is a British Army Air Corps officer, European Space Agency astronaut and a former International Space Station (ISS) crew member. When Danny is kidnapped by a driverless taxi, and finds out his cousin has never heard of Adi, he finally realises something is very wrong. The Accelerometer measures the satellite’s non-gravitational acceleration in its respective orbit. The instrument helps scientists to study factors that cause non-gravitational accelerations such as air drag, winds, Earth albedo, and direct solar radiation pressure on the spacecraft.

Adi – Alien Digital Intelligence in the form of a girl – can bend the laws of physics and control digital data, but as a digital being she wants to know what it’s like to be human. Which is where Danny comes in. Large-eddy simulation of gas–liquid two-phase flow in a bubble column reactor using a modified sub-grid scale model with the consideration of bubble-eddy interaction. Supercool physics Experiments that probe the exotic behaviour of matter at ultralow temperatures depend on the latest cryogenics technology Scale separation and dependence of entrainment bubble-size distribution in free-surface turbulence.

Swarm Rising: Book 1 (Swarm Rising) by Tim Peake | WHSmith

As well as science and aliens, these books also feature some moral messages . Peake and Cole are often too overt with these for my taste, but they are incorporated well into the plotline. Pivotal to the story in Swarm Rising, for example, is our destruction of the planet, which is the reason aliens have arrived. “Humanity is too divided. You are incapable of working together to make change,” retorts a member of the Swarm when Danny tries to argue that we can fix it. But as Adi points out: “The children of Earth hold the hope for the planet’s redemption.” Danny Munday and his best friend Jamila, who lives next door, love gaming. Danny's parents are both into physics and astronomy but have separated because they couldn't stop fighting. Danny lives with his mother, who is so into her job that Danny doesn't get much attention, even if she's at home. This article has been cited by the following publications. “It’s impossible to look down on Earth from space and not be mesmerised by the fragile beauty of our planet.”

I was mildly disappointed that a book Co-written by an astronaut didn't really capitalise on that: there was some science, but much less than, say Christopher Edge puts in his middle grade novels; and the book was set mostly on Earth. Still, that's not really a criticism of the book itself. With the fate of whole worlds in the balance, Danny and Jamila hunt for answers in a breathless adventure that stretches from the International Space Station to New York City. Alone and on the run, they must work out who they can trust – and who truly is their enemy.
