The plot follows Jaxon and Bethany, a forbidden couple from different worlds, as they are thrust into the world of corrupt police officers, drug dealers, and criminals. The two must choose between their morality and safety as they try to survive in a world of lies and deceit. i honestly had no sympathy for any of the four horsemen here and at one point i thought, im glad their entitled asses went to jail. they should've stayed longer. but of course my perspective has changed and i love their entitled asses now. Trees rose above and all around me in the quiet, dark room, lit only by the moonlight pouring in through the windows overhead. I inhaled the sweet smell of the palms, orchids, lilies, violets, and hibiscus, reminding me of my mother’s closet and all the perfumes from her coats and scarves blending together in one space.

I wanted him and me and Michael and making something good out of the last three years, and I wanted him to know he wasn’t alone. Will getting drowned in the sea, then Michael saving him, only to see Rika drowning in the sea, and again Michael saving her, then Trevor drowning in the sea?! One of the most compelling aspects of Penelope Douglass Corrupt Book is its exploration of the history of corruption in government. Through the novel, readers are provided an objective look at how government officials have used their power to their own benefit and the impact that this has had on society. She was literally a doormat with a puny brain, a horny dumb ass with DADDY's money and a PRETTY face. If it weren't for the Christs, she would've been dead in a ditch with her I-don't-know-which-drug-on mother. I don't know what it is about Penelope Douglas, but boy can she write some seriously compelling, Grade A Asshole, people.She uses powerful metaphors and symbolism to provide a deeper meaning to the story. Numerous symbols, such as darkness, water, and the sun, are used to illustrate the characters’ struggles and the consequences of their decisions. Her arrival sets in motion a plan of vengeance with dire consequences. But neither Michael nor Rika are prepared for the attraction and sense of belonging they feel. Sexual tension mixed with his anger and ruthlessness and her ignorance and reservations. No. I couldn’t run. They’d find me soon, and I wanted them to. I shouldn’t have run from them in the first place. Stephanie: Just finished Corrupt by Penelope Douglas. WOW! This book is major intense. It’s different and I had a hard time reading some of it. As the big confrontation is happening, I was feeling some serious anxiety. Didn’t know how far it would go. Overall I did enjoy it and would love to read a follow up with Kai and Will. Don't even get me started on the 'hot alpha male', Michael.God I hated him. He supposedly had this strong pull to Erika from a young age but was quite happy to let his friends grope and intimidate her on numerous occasions.

I'm fully aware that not all romances have to be traditionally 'swoon worthy', hell I prefer asshole couples to sugary sweet ones. But the difference was these two had a made up connection and I'm pretty sure they thought they invented 'toxic'. Those moments of good where he’d looked at me or gave into me were what I’d craved so viciously that I hadn’t seen what was in front of me.When they were in high school, they called them the Four Horsemen. God’s judgment to purge the world through famine, pestilence, war, and death, but our horsemen were far different. And before you accuse me of being a puritan, I am most definitely not. Get it on, I don’t care. My problem is that a New York minute ago, Michael and his friends were trying to make Erika’s life a living hell by standing outside her bedroom window at night wearing their ridiculous masks, by cutting her off financially (Michael can do this because his father looks after the Fane estate), by making her mother disappear, by threatening her with bodily harm.
