The final two reverb settings are delays; this is useful if you play in electronic ensembles. The SDP-4 Piano is our top-range piano, boasting 88 hammer action keys and 64-note polyphony. It includes more sounds for you to play with, including two grand piano sounds, three electric pianos, five organs, guitar, bass, and strings. You also receive 7 more voices in addition to the anticipated grand piano voice, which range from electric piano to organ.

Another important feature for beginners is to have a full range of keys. The SDP-2 comes with an 88-key design, allowing beginners to come to grips with a full keyboard from the offset. You also have the full 88 keys that you would expect to find on an acoustic piano, and the overall touch and feel is very authentic and accurate. The 32 note polyphony is always more than enough, which means that you can play a total of 32 notes at the same time before it stops you playing any more. And yes, if you are wondering how on earth you’d ever play that many notes at the same time – well it essentially comes down to the sustain pedal. If you are holding a lot of notes and paying an arpeggio up the piano, then it is possible to exceed 32 notes – but very rare and unlikely. FeaturesAnyone that wants to eventually play classic music on an acoustic piano will only benefit from using a keyboard with weighted keys like with the SDP-2. Not only do you get the expected grand piano voice you also get 7 more, ranging from electric piano to organ. Strings is usually my personal favourite as I like to layer that with the piano and play movie theme tunes or ballads. If you haven’t tried that before then I can recommend you give it a go – it’s great fun! While some feel it’s easier to teach on a 61-key digital piano when starting out, it’s better to experience a full range of keys as soon as possible, as it won’t limit your playing ability and technique. Please note that this extended warranty is currently only available on products sold within the UK, EU or EEA, and is subject to the terms and conditions as detailed on the extended warranty certificate provided.

However, the Gear4music extended warranty scheme provides an enhanced service, and is designed to offer a higher level of protection than many 'free' warranties offered by some retailers and manufacturers. This is a must for beginners, as being able to take your keyboard to school, lessons, and practice is a huge benefit – nothing puts you off from learning more than needing to humph around a heavy keyboard! Despite appearing to perform a bad job, the little speakers do an excellent job of conveying the sound. The SDP-4 also has more effects. There are now five reverbs, with different styles depending on what you want.

My personal favorite instrument is usually the string section since I enjoy layering it with the piano and playing ballads or movie theme songs. This is pretty much everything you could need to get started playing the keyboard. The stand and bench allow for comfortable practice at home, while the headphones give the benefit of practicing in silence, which most beginners will come to appreciate. Moreover, you don’t need to use the SDP-2 with the included stand. It’s easy to remove, and the lightweight and compact design makes it simple to travel with. Outputs included with the SDP-2 allow the keyboard to become quite versatile. For instance, it’s possible to connect to a mixer or amplifier with the stereo output, while the headphone output lets you practice in peace -and the headphones are included with the keyboard! The inclusion of the sustain pedal is a great addition too. While someone learning to play may not need this initially, the ability to use the pedal for increased expression is something that will eventually become very useful for new players.

The 32 note polyphony is always more than enough, so you can play up to 32 notes simultaneously before it prevents you from doing so.

And yes, the sustain pedal is essentially what you need if you're wondering how in the world you could ever play that many notes at once. EIGHT DIFFERENT VOICES– Experiment with eight different, high-quality voices including both grand piano and electric piano tones, organ, vibraphone and harpsichord. You’ll be able to find the sound you need for any type of music. When the time comes to go on-stage, the SDP-2 is ready for that too. The RCA outputs let you plug into mixers and amplifiers. Their stereo-output also means in a live setup, you can control panning, so you can get the exact stage sound you want. In addition, when you use the USB to Host output, you can use the SDP-2 as a MIDI controller. So if you do find yourself in the studio – you can hold your own. For me, the term ‘stage piano’ could also be defined as ‘portable’ or ‘put-where-you-want’ piano. This is because you can place this anywhere you want in the home and it won’t be a problem to move and assemble. Even if you wanted to constantly move it around the house every few weeks you can do so. Unlike a really heavy acoustic piano that you usually need two removal people to help get it into the house, let alone consider having it upstairs in your own bedroom – a stage piano is easier because it doesn’t weigh a great deal. A stage piano is simpler to move because it weighs less than an extremely heavy acoustic piano, which typically requires two removal men to help get it into the house, much alone consider putting it upstairs in your own bedroom.
