Heavier use as a work aid with liberal screen light active time, and with the power-down time extended, and you’re looking at nearer a week. Like most e-ink tablet styluses ( other than the Supernote), it uses interchangeable plastic nibs that wear down over time and need to be replaced. Let’s not pretend it can supply quality music – it cannot – but the tiny speaker is fine for audiobooks. The NA2+ uses the same note-taking software but the writing feel is more grainy and more akin to writing on paper. The distributor, Onyx, says that "the device is designed primarily for reading ebooks, but it also has some additional features which are defined by the installed software.

You can manually control both warm and cool backlights, and this is a key differentiator for Onyx's tablet line. The old version of Android might concern some who want the latest security updates on their e-ink tab.In fact, it will likely be the e-ink screen technology and its perceived low refresh rate that’ll make the whole experience feel slow compared to traditional tablets. Instead you need to log in on your phone / laptop and make the purchase which then shows up on the Boox immediately afterwards. Solid and sleek, they’re the most striking qualities the Note Air 2 Plus hit home when I first got my mitts on it.

Naturally, the screen refresh in other apps can feel really sluggish, but the Boox software makes it possible to configure just about everything, on a per-app basis as well as globally for the entire system. Note that there’s no 4G/5G option available, so you’ll want to ensure all your books are downloaded before taking it on a journey. The absence of flickering frontlight and the principle of image formation using the "electronic ink" method makes reading eye-friendly. So while it isn't simple, it is powerful and could be perfect for gadget lovers who're after an eye-friendly slate. Its a little slower to start up than a regular tablet or phone (like 10seconds) but that doesn't bother me.

I believe this is primarily because Boox is a Chinese company and so they have a different business culture than what might be expected in Western nations. Kindle, Kobo, Libby, Marvel Unlimited, Nook, The New York Times, and web pages all look great on the screen. The last device I reviewed that was similar was the Huawei MatePad Paper, and I’m pleased to report that the Note Air 2 Plus manages its execution better, with fewer latency issues and improved performance overall. I noticed a slight delay sometimes when starting a new line, but the pen kept up with my fast writing pace.

The Flicker-Free technology completely eliminates the flickering of the LEDs used in this frontlight. The Pen2 Pro that is shipped with the NA2+ is okay – it is lightweight and performs its primary competently. It may use the same E Ink technology made famous on the Kindle, but the Note Air 2 is all about productivity. The display appears largely clean, with proof-reading and annotating always a comfortable experience. There’s some heft to the device, the Note Air 2 Plus weighing in at 445g, although I found it comfortably to hold in one hand.

For example, the current firmware has the following functions such as note taking and drawing, access to the Internet, and others. The model is based on the Android 11 operating system, so the user can install different applications from Google Play which significantly expand the abilities of the device. Look at the basic specs and the Note Air 2 isn’t much different to the now discounted Note Air, but the one big difference – the feel of writing on the screen – is significant. Lawyers, doctors, and anyone keeping up on professional literature or working through dense reading assignments will find it indispensable. Barely thicker than the USB-C port used to charge it, the Note Air 2 Plus has a unibody metal back and sides. It was a breeze to use, reminding me very much of the experience of using my Kindle, and most folk will have no trouble at all becoming familiar with the format quickly.
