As a successful doctor, psychotherapist, mother, wife I do not view myself as disabled, and I don't think there is anything to cure.

This 2016 aging book by theoretical-biologist Josh Mitteldorf and co-author Dorion Sagan (son of Carl Sagan) has new relevance for life extension after the pre-publication, in May 2020, of a paper whose results seem to vindicate at least a portion of Mitteldorf’s theory of aging. Anthony Hopkins has autism, Wentworth Miller does too. Justin Timberlake, Jim Carrey, and Michael Phelps are but a few people with ADHD. We now know that intelligence genes are linked with both autism and ADHD.

I read this after reading Blue Zones. It is a great look into the current science of longevity, as well as offering practical how-tos of not only living longer but living well longer. My primary interest is not so much in increasing my years as it is increasing the quality of my years, especially avoiding dementia and physical decline. Hyman offers a vast array of solutions as part of his Young Forever program. While some of what he proposes is out of reach for most readers (including myself), most are things that can be implemented today. Many doctors say that compliance is the hardest part of keeping people healthy - they can tell us to treat our bodies better or prescribe medications, but they can't make us adhere to their advice." (p. 32) In Young Forever , Dr. Mark Hyman challenges us to reimagine our biology, health, and the process of aging. To uncover the secrets to longevity, he explores the biological hallmarks of aging, their causes, and their consequences—then shows us how to overcome them with simple dietary, lifestyle, and emerging longevity strategies. You’ll learn: In Part III of OUTLIVE The Science and Art of Longevity, Peter Attia presents a comprehensive set of tactics in five main areas to optimize healthspan and longevity. These tactics, based on evidence and practical wisdom, are designed to help people achieve their envisioned future selves at 90 and beyond. Overall, I really liked this book and I would recommend it to others who are aware and try to look after their health. Even others who are making that first step in trying to now make better changes.

The hard reality is 99% of these longevity books are premised on shaky science at best, and are outright promoting mistruths to sell dangerous health advice to vulnerable readers at worst.

The Blue Zones, Second Edition: 9 Lessons for Living Longer From the People Who’ve Lived the Longest by Dan Buettner: A sensation when the research first came out in National Geographic in 2005, and the subject of dozens of fad diets and followup research studies (including, arguably, James Clement’s Supercentenarian Research Study mentioned above), the Blue Zones hypothesis has since come under some criticism but is nonetheless interesting. Diaz and Bark authored The Body Book, which is information about nutrition, exercise and cultivating strong habits, along with some of the latest scientific insights about overall physical health. Looking younger is not the same thing as anti-ageing. The ability to colour our hair or smooth our skin doesn't change the fact that our body is ageing every single day. . . [H]ow you take care of your whole body will affect each and every one of your parts, inside and out." (p. 18)

Dr. Mark Hyman presents the definitive guide to reversing disease, easing pain, and living younger longer that “will revolutionize how we approach aging” (Jay Shetty, author of 8 Rules of Love ). She discusses the social and psychological impact of growing older as well as biological statistics and biological scientific facts and explanations on why and how we age and what can go wrong and what to watch out for. She gives great tips all along the way to stay healthy. Emotional Health: Attia underscores the necessity of nurturing emotional well-being for a fulfilling, long life. He suggests practicing mindfulness techniques, such as meditation and gratitude journaling, prioritizing social connections, and engaging in leisure activities to foster emotional resilience and reduce stress.Dmitry Kaminskiy is an innovative entrepreneur, investor, author and philanthropist dedicated to impact investment and ethical business, with a focus on engineering the accelerated trajectory of progressive technological development for the benefit of humanity. Muscles can still get stronger as we age...Building muscle is the best way to offset one of the other losses that comes with age: bone loss." (pp. 143 - 144) Loved it :) Feels like you're sitting down with Cameron Diaz and she really cares about your well being and wants to help you. I imagine us sitting in her chic apartment overlooking New York with a glass of red wine in our hands and she's teaching me a million things about ageing. (Inspired vision from the movie The Other Woman haha).

Our bodies weaken naturally, and ageing puts us at risk of a host of diseases, but a risk factor is not a diagnosis. It's a call to action ... Knowing the risks can empower us to become the architects of our own strength and resilience." (p. 40) Pseudo-scientific mumbo-jumbo about “spiritual healing” and “natural remedies” and “ancient secrets” peddled by scammy TV doctors abounds on the shelves of bookstores the world-over.Mark Hymen may be referring to autism with intellectual disability and language disability, or challenges in ADHD, but he never makes this clear. You are officially in the menopause when a full year has passed since your last period, what doctors call the final menstrual period, or the FMP" (p. 112)
