Description

The Aspire 5742G is typical of the latest breed of Acer laptops, with its slimline design, powerful processor and relatively low price. We’re amazed sometimes how much Acer crams into its laptops; not only do you get the latest Core i3-370M processor, but there’s also a dedicated graphics processor that can play games, and a generous 500GB hard disk. Windows Update is your easiest bet, ensuring that you get WHQL (Windows Hardware Quality Labs) certified drivers, which means they're stable and good to go. The Aspire 5742G doesn't earn any kudos with two and a half hours of battery life. The weak 48 Wh battery takes its toll here. It's not due to the power consumption because it is, as we will see in a moment, rather low.

Acer's 15.6 incher shows itself from an acceptable side in terms of system noise. The fan runs in a low speed while surfing, listening to music or typing. It even turns off completely after a longer idle period. We determine a minimum of 31.4 dB(A) in idle. The hard disk is audible with a quiet rattle in this state during activity: 32.1 dB(A). The HDD is drowned out when the processor and/or graphics card are loaded.P6200: The Pentium P6200 is an entry level CPU based on the Arrandale core. Compared to the Core i3-330M it does not feature HyperThreading leading to a slower multi-threaded performance. Long time since your last driver update? Hardware makers are constantly tuning their drivers for peak performance. You're likely due for a fresh update. The average temperature for the upper side under maximal load is 34.7 °C / 94 F, compared to the average of 31.2 °C / 88 F for the devices in the class Multimedia. A boring notebook with interesting hardware is what we thought when we looked at the Aspire 5742G-458G64Mnkk's configuration. A seasoned Core i5-450M beside 8 GB of RAM and a strong NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M. The latter includes the graphics switcher, Optimus. This means it's possible to switch to the Intel HD (in CPU) for saving energy.

That is great to hear David! Thank you very much for your 5* review today. We really appreciate your views and thank you again for sharing your experience. Starfield Performance Optimizations, as the name suggests, improves graphics and performance throughout the game. Impressively, it manages to increase frames per second (FPS) while simultaneously reducing the strain on your CPU. Overheating: Your PC's a workhorse, but it's got its heat limits. Exceed them and prepare for a sudden reboot.Either of these methods will ensure your AMD GPU drivers are updated, helping to maintain optimal performance and compatibility with the latest software and games. A dedicated NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M (1024 MB) provides its services for games and hardware acceleration (CUDA, DirectCompute, OpenGL 4.0). The GPU is still very new on the market. Nvidia's graphics switcher, Optimus, is used aside the Intel HD incorporated in the processor. In opposition to switchable graphics, such as ATI (see TimelineX 4820TG, HD 6550M), Optimus has the advantage of an automatic, smooth and uninterrupted switching. All up this notebook’s only downsides are the small amount of RAM and tiny directional keys, while the pros are numerous. The Acer Aspire 5742 looks and performs great, and for such a low price you really can’t go wrong. Fix compatibility issues: Resolve conflicts between your GPU and new games or apps, including jittery in-game videos.

Starfield, a space galaxy adventure set in a not-too-distant future, is the first release from renowned developer Bethesda in 25 years. Bethesda games are famous for a lot of different reasons, one of those being their reputation for being extremely friendly to modding. Acer Aspire 5742 Series Processor: Intel Core i3 370M, Intel Core i3 380M, Intel Core i5 480M, Intel Pentium P6100, Intel Pentium P6200Destroy All Humans!, the 2020 remake of the 2005 game of the same name, is an alien game played from a third-person perspective. The player controls the main alien, Cryptosporidium 137, as he endeavors to harvest human DNA in 1950s America. Crypto has a variety of tools available to conquer enemies, including weapons like the Zap-O-Matic, telekinetic powers, and a flying saucer equipped with a Death Ray.
