With the attention not going away, the BBC arranged for Sanders to be interviewed live on their popular prime time magazine show Nationwide. At the time the programme's main studio anchor was Frank Bough, who was - before his private life was revealed by the press to involve wearing lingerie for cocaine-fuelled orgies with prostitutes - one of the most trusted faces on television. Sanders was given a list of questions he would be asked, which Brough promptly ignored in favour of excoriating his guest for warping children. A blindsided Sanders attempted to rally, but after the broadcast the IPC board intervened and after the 16 October 1976 issue Action was pulled from circulation. [3] [8] Sanders reportedly only found out about the withdrawal by reading about it in newspapers when on holiday in Spain. [9] a b c d Barker, Martin (11 August 1990). The new, safer Action failed to sell as well as readers swiftly realised it was largely the same as previous boys' comics and in November 1977 it was merged into Battle after sales fell to an unprofitable 70,000. [9] "Hellman of Hammer Force" (which had ironically avoided heavy censure and had actually featured more deaths after the suspension [11]), "Dredger" and "Spinball" would continue, though the latter pair were reconfigured and only "Hellman of Hammer Force" would run for any considerable length of time. In the meantime, Mills and Wagner had been reunited by Sanders, and successfully launched the science fiction boys' weekly 2000 AD in 1977. Gelder was a first class rich bastard with no redeeming qualities whatsoever. ‘His’ Paradise Island resort was effectively just land stolen from the island natives, who he thought nothing about exterminating. His henchmen dealt out beatings and threw men to their deaths in the shark infested waters of his lagoon. Even with death all around, Gelder was still motivated by money and believed people would visit his island resort. He made Hook Jaw into a side show attraction when logic suggested killing the beast. Ultimately his greed was his undoing, and thanks to Sharkie, Gelder went to his grave, still trying to buy his salvation. One stormy night in the Caribbean sea, a juvenile great white shark was searching for a meal. On the surface above, a ship had gone down, and he and the other sharks were drawn to the sailors that were frantically swimming for safety. Action was a short lived British comicbook serial published in 1976 and 1977 by IPC. Created by Pat Mills, it earned much attention for its focus on fairly Grimdark, gritty, gorily violent stories, many of which were "dead cribs" (ideas derived by ripping off from currently-popular films, books and other comics) intended to appeal to the growing punk culture and the increasingly disenfranchised youth of Britain. Its stories had much the air of a Darker and Edgier take on classic Pulp novels, while detractors likened it to the penny dreadfuls of the Victorian era. Stranded in the ocean, hope arrived in the form of a sea plane. Both men raced to get the attention of the pilot. McNally, trying to get revenge on the shark who ruined his chance for fortune, battled with Hook Jaw one last time. In the end, he was messily devoured while Mason was rescued by the seaplane. Though obscure, Action played an important role in the development of British Comics; it was the first multi-themed "boy's stories" comic (prior to Action, all "boy's stories" comics would focus on one theme - war or sports, for example), and it proved that there was a market for boy's adventure stories outside of the classical moulds. IPC and Pat Mills would go on to create the successful 2000 AD comics. Many of the early 2000 AD stories have a very strong resemblance to the moods and attitudes of Action stories, and the stories Flesh and Shako in particular have a strong resemblance to Hook Jaw.Mills claimed not to have read the new series, but had heard it was "dire". The Coffin Sub: A short-lived "straight from the mould" story about a British submarine fighting in the Mediterranean. Considered dull and loathed by publishers and readers alike.

IPC Magazines.Mason escaped the destruction of the rig and finds himself working for the exploitative Doctor Gelder, who is trying to turn the island of El Salvados in the Gulf of Mexico into a resort called Paradise Island, with little respect for the natives or the marine life. Hook Jaw soon arrives and begins to disrupt Gelder's plans, leading to the developer putting a bounty on the shark. The bounty hunters take heavy casualties and rapidly become more extreme, culminating in explosives opening up a volcanic rift under the island. In the chaos Mason is killed by Hook Jaw, and his furious native friend Sharkie kills Gelder in revenge as El Salvados is evacuated. Hook Jaw, finding the seas around the island polluted, moves on again. [20] Kacem, A.; Baglinière, J.L.; Meunier, F.J. (2013). The extinct sabertooth salmon, Oncorhynchus rastrosus, was first named for its prominent premaxillary dentition. It possessed an enormous conical tooth on each premaxilla. There is no visible kype on the dentary, implying a different strategy for forming mate dominance. Sharkie devised a plan. He and his fellow natives would hunt down Hook Jaw using a technique that his people used for hundreds of years. Hook Jaw proved more than a match for the native hunters and destroyed the hunting party.Groot C and Margolis L (1991) Pacific salmon life histories. UBC Press. p. 144. ISBN 978-0-7748-0359-5. Not about to let their effort go to waste, Gunn hatches a plan to retrieve the gold from the bottom of the sea. Unfortunately, the territory has been claimed by Hook Jaw, who is now prowling the seabed where the gold lies. The natives grew frustrated and sought the council of their shaman, who said that it was Mason, who had been scarred by Hook Jaw, who led the shark to their island. Against Sharkie's protests, the islanders used Mason as live bait to draw Hook Jaw near. Mason escaped and fought Hook Jaw up close once again.
