But on my high carpet, the head of Unlimited 8 was pulled down onto the carpet, and the roller slowed gradually and finally stopped completely. That is common with air-powered “turbo” rollers, making for a bad vacuuming experience. I switched to normal power settings, and this problem stopped happening, but the clean performance was fairly poor afterward. The dust cup of the Dyson V15 has a capacity of 0.75 liters, while that of the Bosch Unlimited 8 can house up to 0.4 liters of dust and dirt. Aside from the small capacity, the other thing I don’t like about the Bosch Unlimited 8’s cup is that I had to disassemble the unit entirely to empty the container. There are no unnecessary additions, buttons or edges. The device’s design contains everything it needs for its actual task - no more, no less. The trend in the industry is three power modes. We were surprised when we found out that the Bosch has only two power settings. However, in our suction test, we saw that this doesn’t affect the cleaning performance. Bosch Unlimited 8’s noise level is measured between 67 and 71 dB, which is tolerable, and I could still have a conversation with my wife while vacuuming without raising my voice. This volume is quieter than many of its premium cordless competitors, including the Dyson V15, which produces 71 to 76 dB of noise. Display Screen

At 65dB, the BCS122GB competes with some of the market’s best low-noise and ‘silence’ mains cleaners. You won’t disturb the neighbours even during midnight cleaning sorties. It’s the same with the turbo button. To switch to turbo mode, you have to press the button on the top to activate the mode. You won’t have to hold that button, either. That’s quite convenient when cleaning. Power for All The Bosch Unlimited has a size of 130 cm (51.2 inches) from top to bottom. That’s about the same as most other cordless vacuum cleaners on the market. Most people can vacuum comfortably with this size.

How we test our cordless vacuum cleaners

The Unlimited's runtime is about 34 minutes in normal mode, which is relatively short compared to other premium cordless vacuums.

The BSS81POW1 comes with a 5.0 lithium-ion battery, and the BBS1U224 has a 6.0 lithium-ion battery. That’s why the BBS1U224’s runtime is 5 minutes longer. However, it also takes an hour longer to charge (that’s the manufacturer's specifications).Clip-on tools include a 2-in-1 furniture nozzle with pull-down dusting brush and a bonkers long and very flexible crevice tool. That is ideal for getting down behind radiators, but takes some wielding to accurately pinpoint spots of dust. A good-length metal tube optionally extends reach for all tools. Clips and fittings between tools and tubes are top-notch. There are plenty of differences between the two machines, however, and the main one does not make good reading for the Bosch. Put simply, the mechanism used to remove the dust collection bin for emptying is a disaster. For starters, it’s not immediately obvious how to do this. It turns out you have to press a release button and pull the bin down and away from the main body of the vacuum, but this is a contortion you have to guess at. There’s no indication on the vacuum itself whether you pull, push or twist the bin to get it off and no label on the release button either.

We assess the cleaning performance of each vacuum cleaner, compare it to the competition, and then rate it. The Unlimited 8’s filter, on the other hand, has a fine mesh canister with a pleated filter inside. The producer advertises that this filter system can trap 99.9% of dust and dirt, like HEPA filters. It isn’t washable and can be rinsed by twisting the red handle on top, called Rotation Clean. The Unlimited 8’s filter can be rinsed by twisting the red handle on top The runtime of the BBS1U224 from the 8 series is about 40 minutes, which is also quite short. There are many devices with a longer battery life these days. While both machines last quite a while between charges when I choose the normal and eco settings, I rarely use them. Instead, my and many others’ default settings are boost or turbo, which creates the strongest suction but drains the battery the fastest. The Unlimited BCS122GB is the top-spec model of the series and comes with a solid, if not fully comprehensive, list of toys. Emptying the collection bin is a fairly old-school endeavour. It sits at right angles to the extension wand, so this needs removing before the bin can be extracted from the handheld unit. The filter is then lifted out, leaving just the cup full of dust to be tipped into the bin. The Bosch brings 3.2 kg (7 lbs) to the scale. That’s a real heavyweight among cordless vacuums, and it shouldn't get much heavier. On top of the body is the Turbo switch. That might not be as corny as Tesla’s ‘Insane’ power mode, but it seriously ramps up the BCS122GB’s suction. Runtime takes a nosedive accordingly.

It sounds convenient, but I asked myself how its performance can be maintained over time if dust particles get permanently lodged in its fibers. Other Special Features And Ultimates As it is, the normal mode provides ineffectively low suction power. It’s of very little use in typical day-to-day household cleaning and I guarantee most users will simply default to the Turbo setting all the time. At which point, nine minutes is not much at all for general floor vacuuming duties. Good job Bosch supplies two batteries. For one thing, you have to disassemble the device entirely whenever you want to empty the container because the individual parts are arranged that way. We would have expected a better system from the traditional company. An essential advantage of cordless vacuum cleaners is the "2-in-1 function". It increases versatility in use enormously. Now you can also use it to clean your car. On normal power mode with no tools, this cleaner barely registered 65dB of noise output. That is much quieter than most of its premium cordless competitors and the sound is an inoffensive drone – as opposed to the dentist-drill sound of some.
