Description

The electric underfloor heating mats are low maintenance and give direct heating. You can also decide where you want to put them. As I mentioned before, we are also using these mats in our caravan. We have the underfloor heating mats in the aisles of the caravan, but not under the beds because we don’t need them there. Here’s a (VERY) basic guide of how many amps your heating might use or you can also use this handy calculator (to convert watts to amps). Absolutely! We use a gas heating system in our motorhome and it works really well. It’s a blow-air system which allows the warm air to travel through ducts and pass out of vents placed around the van, so the entire space gets warm.

The downside of underfloor heating mats is that you need to buy carpet mats as well to put on top of the electric underfloor heating mats. You can’t directly walk on the electric mats because otherwise, you’ll damage them, and it’s getting too hot anyway. As campervans are mobile, finding replacement fuel sources while on the move will undoubtedly play a role when it comes to deciding on the bestheating system to install in your campervan. Thankfully, most countries have the infrastructure to supply gas, diesel and dry wood while travelling on the road. Having said that – It may be a good idea to search the internetto find out how easy it is to source replacement fuels in the countries you expect to visit. 3. Fuel costsIn case you’re caught out by a sudden cold snap on your trip before you’ve installed a heater in your campervan, we have a hot tip for you: there are some great YouTube videos on how to construct a simple but effective campervan heater. You can make an evening in your campervan a little cosier using a ceramic flower pot and a few tea lights. As with any type of heating, make sure you pay attention to safety and ensure there’s enough ventilation. But we want a narrower 6-metre van, we want twin fixed beds (and we want an automatic gearbox), therefore something has to give; so we intend to see how we get on. In our camping days we were always happiest going minimalist, and now anticipating a similar approach will work for us with a new van. Heated floor mats: Heated floor mats are a type of low-voltage electric floor heating system. You can use them to warm up the floors of your travel trailer, campervan, RV, or motorhome. The mats are made from heavy-duty glass fibre fabric that contains heat-conducting carbon fibres. The fibres heat up within a few minutes and provide a comfortable floor temperature. This can also be a used as a form of underfloor heating.

Unvented gas heaters: The risks associated with unvented gas heaters include fire, excessive condensation, and health hazards such as nitrogen dioxide and carbon monoxide poisoning. Convectors can also be placed with advantage in other spaces in the vehicle where extra, additional, heating is required such as, for example, behind the driver seats in mobile homes or in small insulated storage spaces, where there would otherwise be a risk for frost. You should pay particular attention to thermal bridges. These are the uninsulated connections between the inside and outside of your vehicle. In a campervan, the best example of this is the windows. Regular vehicle windows provide no insulation at all and allow the outside temperature to be transferred to the interior of the vehicle almost unhindered. But there are also differences in the quality of motorhome windows in terms of insulation. If you want to ensure that your investment really pays off, then proper insulation should go hand in hand with a good heating system. You can find out all you need to know about campervan insulation . Wood burning heaters require minimal maintenance apart from keeping them clean and removing the ash. A legal requirement you should be aware of is that flammable materials shouldn’t be kept near the stove. This means you’ll need to store the wood far away, but it’s possible to do that very stylishly in the main body of your campervan. Infrared HeatersThe Salmerk heating system — is a unique technology. Cost efficiency, durability and ease of use make Salmerk system as one of the most cost saving and rational solutions for heating objects of various special purposes. A gas heater is fuelled by gas canisters or a tank that you can choose to mount inside or outside your motorhome. A gas heater is not as sexy as a wood burner would be, but you’ll find it a very efficient and easy-to-use option. These are fan heaters and are popular in larger vehicles because integrated systems are available for hot water as well as hot air. This can be particularly useful if you’re using your motorhome all year round and like the idea of a hot shower. An electric motorhome heater uses around 40-45kwh/day on average However, it will depend on the volume of air in standard cubic feet per minute and the required temperature rise. Which Type of Heater is the Cheapest to Run? As we all know, the price of several types of fuel tends to rise as well as fall. Keep this in mind when choosing your heating system and look for the most fuel-efficient. Further Accessories to Help Keep Your Motorhome Heated
