Description

To make the perfect cup of espresso using this guide and your Cafflano Kompresso, you’ll need the following items: Cafflano Kompresso is the most compact and the lightest hand-held espresso maker. Its hydraulic compression (Pascal's Principle) amplifies the extraction force of authentic espresso and squeezing handles (handgrip) maximize the compression force to make consistent high-pressure over 9 bars.

Supremely smooth and complex at the same time. Almost no bitterness, but plenty of acidity. This is especially true with quite light roasts that normally wouldn’t be suitable for espresso. I have been a coffee geek since I started home roasting more than a decade ago. Since then, coffee has taken me on countless adventures: From ancient coffee ceremonies in Ethiopia to the volcanos of Sumatra. For manual espresso making at home, the Signature Flair is a great shout. Or, for life on the road, both the Wacaco Nanopresso and AeroPress are tough competition. The grind basket takes around 15g or 3.5 teaspoons of coffee. So it should be easy enough to grind at home, then take it with you – even if you want to make multiple espressos! Depending how organised you are you can weigh and grind as many “doses” as you need for the day then store them in individual containers and you’re good to go.The Cafflano Kompresso portable espresso maker is the brain child of Korean coffee lover, Hangsan Yoon. Hangsan decided that he didn’t want to pay for expensive coffee from coffee shops orsplash out on a big complex machine. So, instead, he created this cheap, portable device. Update May 2019: After one and a half year the Kompresso is still going strong. The build quality is solid) Ease of use The device doesn’t feel heavy duty and at first, I was a bit afraid to exert full pressure using it. It turns out that it can easily handle both normal use and more extreme scenarios where almost all my body weight is placed on the device. This has been the case a few times where I have used too fine a grind.

The Wacaco Nanopressooffers a budget-friendly option for a portable espresso maker. It exerts a higher pressure (18 bars) and can take a little more water than the Kompresso (2.7 oz). Using the Cafflano Kompresso feels like a lot of steps. Weigh and grind the coffee, pre-heat the Kompresso, tamp the grounds, assemble, pre-infuse, extract, enjoy. What I like about Cafflano is that you can make great-tasting espresso just like on a traditional espresso machine.Whilst you can use the device at home, meaning your favorite coffee is always on hand, it is largely designed to be portable. This meansyou’ll either need to carry your coffee grounds with you or have a portable manual grinder in your bagtoo. All you need is your favorite espresso beans, a grinder, and some boiling water, and you’re good to go. The company touts its True Crema Valve, a bit of engineering that helps compensate for a bad grind or poor tamping. I tested this by using some pre-ground coffee from a large chain that shall remain nameless. The extraction from the poorly ground coffee with the True Crema valve was better than the extraction without it. The new Picopresso is superior to the Nanopresso in most ways though. The basket is a standard, non-pressurized model that can hold up to 18 grams of ground coffee. It means that you can pull an excellent 50 ml double shot.
