Description

Its very clear the intense trauma he went through during his childhood had massive influence in creating this extreme and polarising personality. When demons are chasing you and challenges are hitting you, if you feel like you can’t handle them, you have to invent someone who can. A savage is an individual who defies odds, who has a will that cannot be tamed, and who, when knocked down, will always get back up! His commitment to the philosophy of 'achieving your greatness by giving life all you got' through mental toughness and self discipline has been an anchor of inspiration and motivation to millions around the world - myself included. The only man in history to complete elite training as a Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, and Air Force Tactical Air Controller, he went on to set records in numerous endurance events, inspiring Outside Magazine to name him “The Fittest (Real) Man in America.

I think Goggins does a great job of balancing the inspirational and motivational aspects of the book with the practical advice he provides. Whatever it takes for you to believe that you’re better than good enough to achieve your dreams is what you must do. There's got to be someone who demonstrates greatness and makes everyone around them think differently. But through self discipline, mental toughness, and hard work, David transformed himself from a depressed, overweight young man with no future into a U. I honestly didn’t think anything could follow up ‘Can’t Hurt Me’, and I was pleasantly surprised to be proven wrong. Here is a summary: David gets an injury, then he continues to push through the pain to further that injury, *repeat*.

He is indeed a savage but he puts himself through unnecessary hells to claim that title every day of his life. O livro é incrível, faz você mergulhar na mente do Goggins como nunca antes ele revelou em qualquer entrevista.

An example would be, we know after the fact of his challenges in CHM, but in "Never Finished" we are running, (lets be real, ridding in a pace car) of what he is attempting all the while learning how he is able to calice his mind to overcome anything. I only race myself" followed by story after story of a race that he refused to stop because other people were ahead of him or the race he pushed harder because some guy passed him and commented on passing him.

Even if what forces you to quit is an injury or something else beyond your control, you will still have to bounce back from the experience mentally. And look, I'm not here to armchair psychologize the guy, but it doesn't take a PhD in psych to see this man has some seriously fucked up coping mechanisms. Buckling them in a firefighting stint (tearing multiple ligaments etc), and decides to commit to running the Moab 240 again later that year with help of a talented physio. He has realised that whilst you are not always responsible for the situations that you find yourself in, only you are responsible for how those situations effect you, and that there is always something to learn and be taken away for everything you experience. At the end of the day it seems more of a subconscious default his brain goes to from all his childhood traumas and having a deep routed desire to be in the pain cave and somewhat punish himself through overwork and pushing his body to the utmost limits.

I can see that by being the person he is, he's giving lots of people hope and teachings on how to overcome life's obstacles . I would personally pass and do not recommend this book, my time would of been better spent relistening to his first book, “You Can’t Hurt Me. Aside from this book being a never ending bible of quotable one liners strong enough to give a fish the courage to climb a tree, it was a beautiful story. If all you do is take a morsel (which is all I would suggest) of what he talks about in this book you will realize a better version of you. You cast him in the shadows and believe that he can be banished for good with more physical pain, with another 100-miler. That’s what I had to do based on the depth of the darkness I came from and the scale of my ambitions. The stories and lessons in this raw, revealing, unflinching memoir, offer the reader a blueprint they can use to climb from the bottom of the barrel into a whole new stratosphere that once seemed unattainable.
