Description

The 620 Watt motor spins up the twin cutting blades up to 34,000 cuts per minute (CPM) at 17,000 rpm. You can adjust the planing depth down to 2mm. The adjustable front shoe has a neat “V” groove for chamfer cuts. And the rear fixed shoe features a spring-loaded catch to help avoid damaging the workpiece. Compact and light design at its finest – Bosch electric planers for comfortable and precise carpentry It’s a beast of electric hand planers because you’re surely not going to be seeing hand planers with this kind of width capacity very often.

There are different sizes of electric hand planers. When talking about their size, I’m referring to the size of the shoe or the width capacity. It comes equipped with a dual-mounted fence with a protective shield which combines well to help plane door edges easily. This model features a powerful 710W motor. As it’s corded, you don’t have the extra battery weight, so it remains easy to manoeuvre despite its power. It also features the easy blade change Bosch WoodRazor system, using a one-blade drum developed especially for smooth, even results. The handle is ergonomically designed to allow the user maximum control of the tool, to reduce user fatigue and for comfort during operation. This planer has a single pass of 82mm with a respectable max planing depth of 2.0mm. A max rebate depth of 9.0mm and a no-load speed of 15,000 rpm put this model on par with the best cordless planers. You can easily adjust the depth by 0.1mm increments for extra precision.

Making use of a powerful brushless motor, you can get up to 15,000 rpm from the cutting blades. It really squeezes out every last drop of torque, and all without needing to change brushes. The rubberised handle is comfortable and helps to keep your hand at the optimum working angle. Controlling cut depth is easy, using the overmolded depth control knob on it. The depth control knob features 10 positive stops and multiple depth settings for easy adjustment, with the rubber overmold making it very easy to handle. Adjusting the depth of cut is very easy as well, using a depth gauge/knob located right at the top of the planer. Equipped with an 11.5 inch cast aluminum shoe, the Craftsman CMEW300 features a smooth and sturdy base that provides the user a better finish and control during operation. The blade is also easy to fit and calibrate. Bosch has developed the WoodRazor System that only requires one blade for a smooth finish with a process that makes blade changing rapid and intuitive. The tungsten carbide-tipped blade is reversible, so its lifespan is doubled.

Equipped with a Poly-V belt, you can be sure to work with the tool for a very long time before you have any belt problems. If your favourite model is body-only, factor in the price of any batteries or extra accessories, such as a dust bag, before making your final decision. Forming part of Bosch’s “green” line of DIY level tools, the PHO 1500 is a formidable bit of kit. It won’t take as much of a bite out of your wallet either. Some are also designed so the dust port can be used on either side of the tool. This makes it more convenient to use it from any position and orientation.

If you’re getting an electric hand planer, one of the major things you have to decide is whether to get a corded one or a cordless/battery-powered unit. Most of the electric hand planers you’re going to find are corded. That means you have to plug it into a power outlet to use it. With a dual side dust extraction, a suitable shop vac can be connected on either side of the tool for easy dust collection and ultimately keeping the work area clean. You can certainly go for a cordless electric planer too, although speed can be somewhat slower for these (10,000-15,000rpm). Also, look for reversible planer blades with a sharp edge on both sides that can be flipped through 180° for longer life. Cordless models have less power and are fairly bulky, especially the higher-performance models as they need at least a 2.5Ah battery, although we recommend 5Ah. Note: Unless you own compatible batteries, your costs will jump considerably if you buy a body-only model. Cutter Head & Blade Type

To top it off, this model comes with a parallel guide, dust bag, and carry case. So, unlike most cordless body-only models, you’ll have everything you need to start planing. It features an all-mirror-grade aluminum bottom with 3 grooves for creating different sizes of chamfers along the edges of the board you’re planing. It’s an 8 amp planer with 4-3/8 inch width, with a cutterhead producing up to 32,000 cuts per minute to ensure you get a very smooth surface on your workpiece. If you don’t want to spend much on it and you still need a really good one, this is one of the best options you can go for. Planing and rebate depths are features you should definitely factor in when choosing an electric planer. The best cordless and electric planers have a planning depth per pass of around 2-3mm and a maximum rebate depth of 9-12mm. Thanks to its highly efficient brushless motor, this model significantly reduces energy loss, friction wear and excess heat caused by the brushes in standard motors. That is why the Bosch PL1632 electric planer handle is optimally-angled to ease the forward motion of the tool and reduce fatigue for anyone working with it.
