Description

Cavilon™ Advanced Skin Protectant has been shown to significantly improve severe cases of MASD (Moisture Associated Skin Damage). 1 Cavilon Advanced Skin Protectant creates a highly durable, ultra-thin, transparent barrier and doesn't require removal. Cavilon No Sting Barrier Film is a polymeric solution which forms a uniform film when applied to the skin. The product is dispersed in a unique non cytotoxic, non stinging solvent, which dries rapidly. Product samples are subject to availability and 3M reserves the right to cancel this product sample offer at any time.

Be advised: whichever brand you use, there will be a build-up of residue left where no tape is put over the applied barrier film/fluid, so that has to be dealt with. You can peel it off (easier if you first apply an extraneous layer of the barrier fluid), but it can flake, so you have to take care to keep the plastic flakes/particles out of the wound area. They make wipes of adhesive-tape remover that can be used to remove this barrier film residue also. Allkare makes one that you have to cleanse the skin after using. Triad makes one that does not require cleansing afterwards. They seem to me to work about equally well. How should I remove Cavilon no sting barrier film? There is no need to remove – it will wear off naturally. If removal is required, the application and immediate removal of an adhesive surgical tape will remove the film. Standard medical adhesive removers may also be used. Use of the product with other barrier ointments, creams or lotions may significantly reduce its effectiveness Unlike moisture barrier products that cannot reliably attach to underlying skin, 3M’s polymer-cyanoacrylate enables attachment to wet, weepy, damaged skin.¹Once on the skin, 3M™ Cavilon™ Advanced Skin Protectant creates an environment that repels irritants and supports patient healing and comfort. The products unique 3M formulation contains a blend of not one but two polymers, including a Terpolymer and a Homopolymer (plasticiser). The Terpolymer is derived from three distinct monomers, that provides a protective coating on the skin, creating a highly effective barrier. The Homopolymer enhances the films ability to flex with the skin and helps to maintain a continuous, protective coating. Other barrier films contain only one polymer and some utilise alcohol as a solvent. How often do I need to re-apply Cavilon no sting barrier film? The protective film can last up to 72 hours¹, but re-application is required after each stoma pouch/adhesive dressing change. Each Cavilon Foam film applicator is supplied in its own sterile sealed pouch, there are 5 applicators in each box. medical conditions, including difficulty swallowing.
