Description

Do expect a bit of off gassing due to memory foam material. Features you should know about OTTY Deluxe pillow OTTY are generally cheaper than Emma Hybrid mattresses; in fact they are generally one of the cheapest mattress brands in the UK. Part of that reason is perhaps because they are made in China and not the UK, so that will obviously explain lower production costs. Key features – Filling: Goose down and feathers; Cover: 100% cotton cover (machine washable) Sizes: Standard, superking, square What's even better is that it's easily removable. Just unzip it, toss it in a washer, set the heat to 40°C and cycle to gentle and be done with it. Your cover will be as fresh and as clean as day one. Key specs – Filling: 24 memory foam springs, ecocell foam, Wellsleep fibre; Cover: Polyester (machine washable); Sizes: Standard size only

It's a standard-sized pillow that will fit any regular pillowcase. You can even completely replace the machine washable covers if you don't want to use them. It's your call. To sum up – our testers gave it an 8 out of 10. So, not bad. Not bad at all. OTTY DELUXE VS OTTY DELUXE PURE – Comparison table All jokes aside, this one truthfully strikes gold in terms of support as far as mid-range foam pillows go. There isn't much we'd do differently even if we were to design a pillow for optimal support. Is OTTY Deluxe pillow eco-friendly or sustainable? Despite the high-tech credentials, the Simba Hybrid feels surprisingly like a traditional pillow – much more so than some all-foam competitors. Unlike microfibre and feather pillows, which tend to be either soft or supportive but rarely both, the Simba Hybrid finds that sweet spot right out of the box. It’s worth noting, however, that unlike the Simba Hybrid mattress, there’s no trial period with its bedding products. The pricing for OTTY and Emma are quite different, but they have one thing in common: both companies offer discount codes and coupons. While neither are as generous with their discounts as companies like Ergoflex, you can still get 20% off quite easily for either company.

The pillow’s two polyester microfibre layers are encased in a soft padded pillowcase. With both layers inserted, the pillow has a good amount of loft, which is a good thing for side sleepers who need to support their head and shoulder (though we also found the pillow to be comfortable and supportive with just the one insert). While most of the pillows on our roundup have a machine washable cover, you might also be pleased to hear that this pillow – inserts and all – can be popped in the washing machine at a temperature up to 60°C. Dormeo uses its unique “octaspring” technology across its range of mattresses, toppers and pillows. As such, the Octasmart Pillow is more than a little reminiscent of, and just as impressive as, the fabulous Octasmart Deluxe topper that appears in our roundup of best memory foam mattress toppers.

Synthetic pillows are usually made from polyester. As they’re hypoallergenic, they’re great for allergy sufferers and also affordable, lightweight and easy to care for. They’re good if you sleep in a variety of positions throughout the night too. But they aren’t as malleable or breathable as other pillows and they have the shortest lifespan of all pillows – with the filling often prone to clumping.

This is not one of the coolest foam pillows we've tested so far. Granted, memory foam tends to sleep hot, but considering OTTY claims this one does a good job at dissipating heat – we have to hold it against them. To cut things short, the OTTY Deluxe Pillow is neither eco-friendly nor sustainable. Just like any other memory foam pillow encased in polyester. These are materials that have many amazing features, but are not beneficial for our environment. The situation is slightly better when recycled polyester is used, but to our knowledge OTTY used virgin polyester. How did we test the product? To test the edge support further, I used an 8kg weight to measure the sinkage on the sides of bed, which came at around 1.5inches. This seems average for a hybrid bed like this and in keeping with the sinkage measurements in the middle of the bed as previously mentioned. If memory foam isn’t your thing, don’t worry: we have plenty of microfibre and down recommendations in our main best pillow roundup.

In reality, this new AirTech foam (also used in the Original Hybrid OTTY mattress) is an open-cell foam that's not as dense as the regular one and is, therefore, more breathable. However, in the real world, there's only so much you can do to make foam genuinely breathable. It’s easy to assume this is irrelevant as you’ll have a pillowcase covering it. But it’s worth noting that natural cover fabrics such as cotton have much more breathability than polyester and other man-made fibres, which can make for a far more comfortable night’s sleep if you’re prone to getting hot at night. How we test pillows For instance, if you sleep on your side, you may want something with a bit more loft. And if you’re someone who is prone to overheating at night, it’s important to be aware that some pillows – particularly memory foam ones – may feel warmer than others. Different sleepers will get on better with different pillows, and it’s important to bear that in mind when testing. Aside from comfort, a good memory foam pillow can contribute to a better night’s sleep in a number of ways.A common issue is that, since memory foam works by reacting to your body heat, the heat it retains can cause it to become uncomfortably warm. Many of us prefer a cool pillow over a warm one (temperature-regulating cooling pillows exist for this very reason), so it’s worth taking this into account when buying a memory foam pillow. Of course, most brands are well aware of this fact and have implemented their own techniques (such as Dormeo’s Octaspring technology) to ensure you don’t overheat in the night. Key features – Filling: Memory foam; Cover: Quilted scuba (neoprene) (machine washable); Sizes: 1 (60 x 35cm, 11/6cm height) To investigate further I used some wine glasses and some weights to mimic someone else in the bed moving positions and getting in and out of bed. I placed an empty wine glass in the centre of the mattress and dropped a 8kg weight next to it – at 4,10 and 25 inches away.

The soft white polyester outer cover is well made and has a grey viscose band around the middle which I believe offers extra breathability, however it does tend to make my hair static! Not the best look in the morning. It is smart though and rather like the fabric on an office chair. The cover can be unzipped and machine washed at 40 degrees which is great if you don’t want to use an extra pillow case and also for allergy sufferers. As is the blue memory foam filling which has been infused with a cool gel to provide a cooler sleeping surface for your head, reducing tossing and turning in the night. As I’ve mentioned already, the Otty Deluxe Pure pillow is extremely comfortable. It’s noticeably softer compared to some of the other memory foam pillows I’ve tested (especially the Eve pillow and the Nectar adjustable pillow), so if you’re after a pillow that offers plush comfort, it hits the nail on the head. Plus, it never became too warm, as you might expect with memory foam.

The inclusion of bamboo and charcoal in the pillow is another standout feature. According to Otty, bamboo, which is also used in the Panda memory foam pillow, is hypoallergenic, while charcoal adds antibacterial and deodorising properties. In addition to this, the Otty Deluxe Pure’s polyester outer cover can be machine washed at 40°C, meaning there are no obstacles to keeping the pillow fresh and clean. According to the mattress comparison table above, I think it’s important to note that the Emma Hybrid does come with a much longer free night trial period– 200 nights. The OTTY Hybrid has a significantly shorter one, indeed it is literally half as long, at 100 nights… It’s time now to complete this OTTY pillow review, and I would like to share my final thoughts with you. In my opinion, the OTTY pillow would be a great choice for everyone looking for: The outer cover is made from 60% Polyester, 40% Viscose, with the inner casing made from 100% Polyester. I am still waiting for OTTY to clarify the material of the Airflow side bolster support system, and how it actually works. If it works well, I may include it as a whole new layer – meaning that the OTTY actually has a whole five layers, not four.
