The conversations and laughter around him died away as he spoke, and he knew they were all listening. His nervousness grew. In summary, while Genghis Khan’s reputation as a bloodthirsty conqueror is not without a basis in fact, I think that Iggulden has shown him to have been a much more layered, multi-faceted historical figure. He had many noble qualities and was a superb leader of men, maybe among the best ever. He was also loved by his people and had understandable motives behind the actions that he took. From this day, you are no longer children. If you have to fight, even if it is a friend, put him down as fast and hard as you possibly can. Kill if you have to, or spare him—but beware putting any man in your debt. Of all things, that causes resentment. Any warrior who raises his fist to you must know he is gambling with his life and that he will lose. If you cannot win at first, take revenge if it is the last thing you do. You are traveling with men who respect only strength greater than theirs, men harder than themselves. Above everything else, they respect success. Remember it.” Genghis stifled his irritation. "You have not said when they will come, these Uighur scholars," he said.

And again, you want to use a Bow with these like the one we’re using that does significant damage with Fire Arrows because it’s essentially what we’re using. This does a lot of physical and fire damage and costs three ammo per shot so you don’t want to waste them on trash enemies. But you definitely want to use it on your hard-to-kill enemies such as Sorceresses, Ruiners, or Naga Archers or the ones with crossbows since they are really a pain in the ass. I cannot stress enough how much of a game-changer these Cinder Arrows are so you’re absolutely going to want to get them. Armor and Rings Like an island in a raging sea, the Mongol horsemen moved across the face of the Chin army and no one could bring them down.” And then we cranked Agility with this Bow because it scales really well with Agility but if you were using a different Bow like the quality one I mentioned earlier, which is the Udirangr Shaman Bow, you could split this between Strength and Agility to get better damage. Next, Endurance and Vitality are important. If you’re playing a predominantly Ranged Build, Vitality is not as important as with a Melee Build but you do get extra ammo from this Attribute so it’s worth putting points into. It also helps keep you alive. Another character of note introduced in this book is Kokchu, a shaman who smells of blood and is very self-serving. He gains Genghis' trust and starts to teach Temuge the ways of a Shaman. During the course of Temuge's lessons, he becomes addicted to Opium, which Kokchu provides for him.First, the cover- it looks like it is some military history book. It's not. Sure, some military stuff is in there but it's not the focus. This story covers many different events from many different characters, but even though they are a lot, I didn’t have trouble memorizing the names, and who did what, what happened to who and so on, and that’s very strange for me. For example, when I was reading A Game of Thrones I suffered a lot, I enjoyed the book, I’m not gonna lie, but it was just so slow and had a hard time remembering the names and what was happening to all the characters. This book, on the contrary, was fast paced, and the way David Gemmell tells the story is just absolutely EPIC!! he makes it easy for you to remember.

For a moment, the messenger could only stare, but then he dropped his eyes to the polished wooden floor and remained silent. Now that you know how the ammo system works, you’ll probably want to know how the ammo types work. In most games of this ilk, you find a different arrow/bolt type, and when you use all of them, they’re gone. However, in Lords of the Fallen, when you find a different arrow/bolt/grenade, you keep it and assign it the same way you would a spell which you can hold up to a maximum of three, or four slots. So, when you find a Radiant Bolt, you keep it forever and provided you have Ammunition Pouches/Satchels, you can keep using it. The same works with throwing items too, you’ll find a grenade, or a throwing knife, and you’ll be able to keep using it. How does Magic Work? ¶And Andromache? Her introduction to the grandeur and decadence of Troy’s royal court transformed her into a determined woman, willing to suffer the wrath of a king to live by her own terms. Her desire for one man seemingly at peace with her love for another. And to see her deal with megalomaniac King Priam and his devious children was a real treat.

in sum, this book was well written, well paced and superbly detailed. I'm looking forward to reading the final volume in the trilogy about this larger than life historical figure. In closing, here are a few famous quotes ascribed to Genghis (Conan fans will recognize the first one): Fear is an aid to the warrior. It is a small fire burning. It heats the muscles, making us stronger. Panic comes when the fire is out of control, consuming all courage and pride.” There are a total of 5 books under this series. The Gates of Romerelates the story of two young boys, Gaius and Marcus, as they grow to adulthood during the last years of the Roman Republic, a period of great political turmoil, chaos, and violence. But then something unexpected happened. This book gripped me. It got a hold and did not let go of me. I loved every word of it. So much that I’m at a loss of words. But try I shall. This is the second of five in the author's series about Genghis Khan. This is also my second reading, the first was many years ago, pre-GR. The remaining books in the series will all be new to me.More than anything else around the numerous tales of Troy that I have read, this story sets and establishes the context of the characters and world, before going into the conflict we know much more about. Whilst we often are shown Agamemnon slowly but surely conquering the states of Ancient Greece, I have never read anything where the Trojans are given the same treatment. In Lord of the Silver Bow, we finally get that.
